Wait for page.goto() to finish, then call page.screenshot(). For an HTTP redirect, Puppeteer resolves the navigation with the response from the last URL in the redirect chain. Choose a readiness condition that suits the page, and inspect the response if you need to confirm its final URL or status.
Capture a page after an HTTP redirect
In this runnable ES module example, page.goto() completes before the screenshot call. Puppeteer’s Page.goto() API documentation says that when there are multiple redirects, navigation resolves with the response from the last redirect.

The optional chaining on response avoids an error when goto() returns null, which the API documents as possible for navigation to about:blank or a same-URL hash change. For an ordinary HTTP navigation, inspect the response URL and status when you need to verify where the browser ended up.
Choose when the page is ready to capture
waitUntil: 'networkidle2' is the condition used in Puppeteer’s screenshots guide. It is a reasonable starting point, not a universal guarantee that every application has finished rendering. Some pages continue loading or updating content after navigation.

- Use a navigation wait condition such as
networkidle2when it fits the page’s loading behavior. - If the image depends on a specific part of the app, wait for that selector or another page-specific condition before taking the screenshot.
- Do not assume that one readiness condition works for every site; select it based on what must be visible in the capture.
Check the final response and redirect chain
The response returned by goto() can help establish the destination and HTTP result. Puppeteer documents that valid HTTP error statuses such as 404 or 500 do not necessarily cause goto() to throw in headless shell, so check status() explicitly if an error page should not be captured.

When a click triggers the navigation
If a click causes navigation, start waiting for navigation and perform the click together. Registering the waiter only after awaiting the click can miss the navigation event. Puppeteer’s documented pattern uses Promise.all():

Troubleshoot redirect screenshots
- The screenshot shows the old page: Make sure the awaited navigation corresponds to the redirect or click that changes the page, and take the screenshot only after the navigation promise resolves.
- The destination loads but app content is missing: Navigation completion may come before the relevant client-rendered content. Wait for a selector or condition tied to the content you need.
- The script reports an HTTP failure only in your own checks: Inspect
response.status(). A 404 or 500 can be a completed navigation rather than a thrown exception. - There is no response object: Guard response inspection with
if (response)or optional chaining. Puppeteer documentsnullfor cases such asabout:blankand same-URL hash navigation. - A click-triggered navigation is missed: Put
page.waitForNavigation()andpage.click()in the samePromise.all()call so the waiter is active in time.
