Switchboard Live schedules and routes a YouTube broadcast; it does not store or play your pre-recorded videos. To stream a playlist, play it through an encoder such as OBS, Ecamm, or Switcher Studio, send that encoder’s output into Switchboard, then start the scheduled event in Switchboard. Its documented workflow is not an automatic playback trigger at the event time.
What you need before you schedule
- A video playlist and an encoder that can play pre-recorded content as a live stream. Switchboard names OBS, Ecamm, and Switcher Studio as examples.
- A Switchboard workflow with the YouTube destination you want to use.
- Access to the encoder and media files when the broadcast is due to run. Switchboard says it does not store or archive the source videos.
Switchboard currently supports RTMP ingest, according to its FAQ. Configure the encoder to send its output into the relevant Switchboard workflow; the encoder, not Switchboard, is responsible for playing the playlist.
Create a scheduled event in Switchboard
Switchboard documents two ways to create an event: from a workflow or from the Events Page Manager. The available controls can vary, so follow the path shown in your account.
- Open event creation. In the workflow, select Create New, then Scheduled Event. Alternatively, open the Events Page Manager and select New Event.
- Enter event details. Add the title, description, start date and time, and an optional thumbnail.
- Add destinations. Select saved destinations or connect new ones, including the YouTube destination for the broadcast.
- Save the event. Switchboard says it creates a YouTube event page for YouTube Partner Destinations. Copy the event link from the YouTube destination’s broadcast information in the workflow or from the YouTube event page, then share it with viewers.
Switchboard’s Scheduled Events guide says its Start Streaming control becomes available when encoder video is present at the 30-minute mark before the scheduled time. Its current Scheduled Events feature page says a stream may be started up to six hours after its scheduled time. Those are different timing descriptions; check the controls and event behavior in your account before relying on either window for a fixed broadcast.

Send the playlist and take the event live
- Load the playlist in your encoder. Arrange the prerecorded videos in the order you want them played, and confirm the encoder is configured to stream to Switchboard’s RTMP workflow.
- Start the encoder output. At broadcast time, start sending video and verify that Switchboard is receiving it.
- Start the scheduled event in Switchboard. When the control is available and video is arriving, click Start Streaming. This sends the workflow’s broadcast to the event’s destinations.
- Monitor the encoder and event. The playlist continues to depend on the encoder playing and sending video; Switchboard’s event scheduling does not start playback of a file stored there.
If you created the YouTube event in YouTube Studio
If your YouTube event already exists, Switchboard’s documented workaround is to add it as a Custom RTMP destination. The dedicated guide describes this setup, while noting that its statement about direct support for scheduled YouTube events may be out of date. Check the current destination options in your account before choosing a workflow.
- Create the scheduled event in YouTube Studio.
- Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key from YouTube.
- In Switchboard, add a Custom RTMP destination.
- Paste the stream URL and key into their corresponding fields, then give the destination a recognizable name.
- Send the encoder’s video through the Switchboard workflow and start the event as described above.
For a Custom RTMP destination, the Switchboard guide says the title and description entered in Switchboard do not populate the destination. Manage the event’s metadata where the YouTube event is created. See Switchboard’s scheduled YouTube event guide.

Edit or remove a scheduled destination carefully
Switchboard says scheduled events can be edited from the Events Page Manager or a workflow. Its guide lists the schedule time, title, and destinations as editable. Before removing a YouTube destination from an event that has already been promoted, consider the consequences: Switchboard warns that removing it can permanently delete the public YouTube event page, break shared links, and remove Notify Me subscriptions.
