For a Malayalam devotional channel, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, enter its current server URL and private stream key in your encoder, and choose settings your upload connection can sustain. Test the audio and video before going live, and clear rights for every song, recording, and visual. YouTube documents automatic archiving only for streams under 12 hours, so plan separately if you need a replay from a continuous 24/7 broadcast.

What you need before starting

A 24/7 YouTube livestream usually uses an encoder: software on a computer or a dedicated hardware unit sends the video and audio to YouTube. YouTube does not require dedicated hardware for a basic stream; it recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. A computer-based setup gives you local control but depends on the computer, encoder, power, and internet connection staying available. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

  • A YouTube channel that is eligible to livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a livestream restriction in the previous 90 days; its published minimum age for livestreaming is 16. Check the current requirements at YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page.
  • An encoder and a stable upload connection. A higher resolution or bitrate is useful only if the connection can sustain it reliably.
  • Video, audio, and artwork that you have the necessary rights to use in a livestream and, if relevant, an archive.
  • A separate replay plan if viewers need access to the complete broadcast after it ends.

Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one in Live Control Room. Scheduling lets you promote the event and gives viewers a chance to set reminders.
  2. Set the title, description, visibility, and stream type. Use a clear description that tells viewers what is playing and whether the stream is continuous. YouTube says tags have a minimal role in discovery except where the video’s subject is commonly misspelled; see Manage live stream settings.
  3. Copy the server URL and stream key shown in Studio into the matching fields in your encoder. Use the current values displayed for that stream rather than an old saved key. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send content to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in Studio and update the encoder.
  4. Configure and start the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before sharing the watch page widely. A scheduled event can be prepared ahead of its start time; confirm the stream is actually reaching YouTube.

Choose stable encoder settings

YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. Its bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the matching row in YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance rather than applying one bitrate to every setup.

  • Resolution and frame rate: Start with a combination your connection and computer or encoder can hold continuously. For a devotional image with little motion, a high frame rate may not add much; test the actual video content and prioritize uninterrupted playback.
  • Bitrate: Select the value YouTube recommends for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate, then test it against your real upload connection. Do not set it so high that normal network variation causes dropped frames or unstable stream health.
  • Rate control and keyframes: Use CBR and set the keyframe interval to two seconds. Do not exceed YouTube’s four-second maximum.
  • Audio: Use AAC or MP3. Play representative devotional audio during the test and check that it is present, clear, and not clipping. A static image does not prove that the audio feed is working.
  • Protocol: Use RTMP or RTMPS as supported by your encoder and the server details shown in YouTube Studio.

Test with the same encoder, connection, audio, and visuals you intend to use for the continuous broadcast. Check that the correct image is displayed, audio remains present, the preview is accessible, and Live Control Room reports healthy delivery before treating the setup as ready.

Clear music and visual rights before going live

Devotional or traditional subject matter does not automatically make a recording free to use. A song may involve separate rights in its composition, sound recording, performance, publishing, and other contributions. Confirm that your permissions cover the intended livestream, territory, and any archive; keep copies of licenses and permissions. YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for necessary rights, including music rights. Read the YouTube livestream terms and conditions.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it. Even a streamer who has a license may need the rights owner to allowlist the channel through Content ID. YouTube says Content ID claims on an archived live stream occur after the stream completes if the creator chooses to archive it. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and ask the relevant rights holders about any allowlisting requirement before relying on a license.

Plan the replay independently of the live broadcast

YouTube’s encoder instructions say, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That threshold is not a guarantee that one event lasting 12 hours or longer—including a 24-hour broadcast—will produce a complete automatic replay. Confirm the current behavior in YouTube Studio before launch if an archive matters, and choose an archive strategy that does not depend on an undocumented result. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Keep the live operation and replay requirement as separate decisions. If a complete replay is important, decide how you will capture or publish it, how long each event will run, and whether you have permission to retain and publish the material in that format.

Understand monetization and channel policy

Live revenue features are available only to eligible channels, and a devotional theme or continuous broadcast does not itself establish eligibility. YouTube applies its monetization policies to livestreams as well as other formats. Reused content is assessed at channel level, and repetitive or mass-produced output can be ineligible for monetization. Make the channel’s original authorship and contribution apparent; permission to use a recording does not by itself resolve a monetization-policy review. See YouTube channel monetization policies.

Choose a local or cloud-based workflow

Approach What it means Trade-off to consider
Software encoder on a computer Your computer runs the encoder and sends the stream to YouTube. Uses equipment you may already have and offers local control, but the computer, power, encoder, and connection must remain available.
Dedicated hardware encoder A separate device handles encoding and delivery. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production events, but dedicated hardware is not a requirement for a basic stream.
Cloud-hosted continuous service A cloud service sends prerecorded video to YouTube without relying on your home computer to run the encoder. Compare supported content and rights, service terms, archive behavior, and what happens during a service or network failure. YouTube lists this as a service category, not as a performance guarantee or endorsement of individual providers.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • Studio does not receive the stream: Check that the encoder uses the current server URL and stream key shown for the intended event. If the key was reset or changed, update the encoder.
  • Stream health is unstable or frames drop: Reduce the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a combination supported by YouTube’s codec-specific guidance and your tested upload capacity. Run another test and watch stream health.
  • Viewers see video but hear no audio, or the sound distorts: Verify the encoder’s audio input and AAC or MP3 output, then test representative audio. Check that the source is connected and that the level is not clipping.
  • The stream is interrupted by a copyright match: Review YouTube’s notice and identify the matched material. Confirm that permissions cover the live use and ask the rights holder whether Content ID allowlisting is needed; do not assume a license prevents an automated interruption.
  • The expected full replay is missing: A 24/7 event is outside YouTube’s documented automatic-archive assurance for streams under 12 hours. Check Studio and use the replay plan chosen before launch rather than assuming the continuous event will be archived in full.
