For a creator-side problem, compare the stream’s total outgoing bitrate with sustained upload capacity, leave headroom, and check codec, resolution, frame rate, CBR and keyframe interval. Then compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi and inspect YouTube Live’s stream-health messages. These checks can identify likely causes, but buffering alone does not show that Airtel is responsible.
First identify where buffering happens
There are two different problems that can look alike: an unstable creator-to-YouTube ingest stream, or viewers buffering while playing back a stream that is reaching YouTube normally. Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health and error messages while the broadcast is running. If the stream health is poor, start with the encoder and the creator’s upload connection. If it is healthy but viewers report buffering, investigate playback conditions and latency instead.
YouTube recommends testing before going live with representative audio and motion, then monitoring stream health during the broadcast. Its error guidance says infrequent keyframes can cause buffering. YouTube Live streaming error messages
Check the encoder settings against YouTube’s guidance
Use the live-stream settings for the configuration you are actually sending. YouTube’s published recommendations depend on codec, resolution and frame rate; upload-video encoding settings are not a substitute. Its current encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe frequency that does not exceed four seconds. These are YouTube’s published configuration recommendations, accessed in 2026—not measurements of Airtel broadband. Check YouTube’s current bitrate table for other codec, resolution and frame-rate combinations. YouTube lists 128 Kbps for stereo audio. Make sure the keyframe interval is two seconds where the encoder allows it, and no more than four seconds. YouTube encoder settings
Reduce bitrate or resolution when upload cannot sustain the stream
YouTube says the total stream bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Include the audio bitrate and any primary and backup stream being sent when considering the total. A download-speed result does not tell you whether upload has enough capacity. If the connection cannot sustain the chosen bitrate, lower the encoder’s bitrate or select a lower resolution, then test again.

Check the keyframe warning and CBR setting
Set the encoder to CBR rather than a variable bitrate mode, and use a two-second keyframe interval. If YouTube reports that keyframes are not being sent often enough, correct the interval; its error guidance identifies infrequent keyframes as a possible cause of buffering. Measure Airtel upload capacity and compare wired with Wi-Fi
- Check upload, not just download. Run a speed test and note upload, ping or latency, and jitter. Airtel’s speed-test page notes that results can vary by time and location. Airtel Internet Speed Test
- Test at relevant times. Repeat the test when you normally stream, and record the time and result. A single test may not represent sustained capacity during a broadcast.
- Account for other network use. YouTube notes that other people sharing the connection can reduce the bandwidth available to a stream. Pause large uploads or downloads and retest if practical. YouTube streaming tips
- Compare Ethernet with Wi-Fi. Connect the streaming computer to the router by Ethernet and repeat a comparable test or stream test; then compare with Wi-Fi. YouTube says a wired connection may help. Airtel also recommends checking router placement and configuration. A standard Ethernet cable is useful for this diagnostic if your computer and router have compatible ports; cable length depends on your setup. If repeated wired tests show upload below what your stream needs, or performance remains poor at the times you broadcast, contact Airtel broadband support with the time-stamped results and YouTube stream-health messages. The available evidence does not establish that Airtel broadband is inherently responsible for YouTube Live buffering.

If viewers buffer but your stream health is good
When the creator-side ingest stream is healthy but viewers still buffer, changing encoder bitrate alone may not solve the problem. YouTube says lower latency can mean more playback buffering. If the issue is on the viewer side, test the available latency setting in the stream’s settings and weigh smoother playback against the need for real-time interaction. Viewers with slow internet can also try a device closer to the router and reducing interference, as YouTube’s playback guidance suggests. This is a playback-side check, not a fix for an unstable creator connection. YouTube system requirements and supported devices
