First confirm that the receiving HTTP server or AWS Elemental MediaStore destination accepts chunked DASH. These encoder settings enable earlier delivery of fragments; they do not guarantee a particular end-to-end latency.
Before you change the event
This procedure applies to DASH output sent to an HTTP server or AWS Elemental MediaStore. The receiving system must be able to accept the chunked DASH output, so confirm its requirements with the destination administrator first. AWS says the feature works with downstream systems that accept DASH, and advises discussing requirements with the downstream administrator: AWS Elemental Live: Setting up for ultra-low latency.
- Confirm that the destination accepts DASH with chunked encoding and chunked transfer.
- Ask which fragment and segment lengths the receiving workflow expects. AWS does not prescribe universal values in this procedure.
- Plan to test with the actual receiver and player. The receiving system, packaging and delivery chain, player, network, and their configuration affect measured end-to-end latency.
Configure chunked DASH output in Elemental Live
- Create a DASH output group. In the Elemental Live event workflow, create the DASH output group for the confirmed HTTP server or MediaStore destination. Follow the normal output-group setup for that event.
- Enable Chunked Encoding. This allows Elemental Live to send fragments before a complete segment has finished.
- Review Fragment Length and Segment Length. Adjust these values only as required by the downstream workflow. Consult the interface help and destination administrator; there is no single value established for all receivers.
- Select the appropriate HTTP Push Dialect. The Chunked Transfer field appears after you choose the appropriate dialect.
- Enable Chunked Transfer. Check that both Chunked Encoding and Chunked Transfer are enabled in the output configuration.
- Validate the full path. Start the event and verify that the destination accepts the output and that the intended player can play it. Measure end-to-end latency in this deployment rather than treating the encoder settings as a latency guarantee.
What these settings do—and do not—control
Chunked Encoding lets Elemental Live deliver fragments before a full segment is complete; Chunked Transfer configures the HTTP push behavior for that output. Sending fragments more frequently can help reduce waiting at the receiver, but the receiver must handle that behavior. These settings alone do not determine glass-to-glass latency across the complete delivery and playback chain.
Do not assume a particular fragment length, segment length, or latency target from the feature name. Establish the values with the destination administrator and verify the result with the real receiver and player.

Keep SRT and LL-HLS workflows separate
SRT contribution into Elemental Live
SRT input is a transport contribution workflow, not a replacement for configuring chunked DASH output. Coordinate the address and port, encryption and passphrase if used, stream ID if required, and preferred latency with the upstream administrator. AWS’s setup and prerequisite guidance is available in Setting up an SRT input and SRT input prerequisites.
SRT output from Elemental Live
For SRT output, coordinate the destination address and port, caller/listener roles, latency, network access, and encryption with the downstream administrator. Elemental Live is the sender in either caller/listener arrangement; the caller initiates the handshake. AWS’s references are Delivering TS using the SRT protocol and Creating the output.

When sending Reliable TS to an AWS Elemental MediaConnect flow, AWS recommends using the MediaConnect option in Reliable TS; its SRT option is intended for downstream systems other than MediaConnect.
LL-HLS through MediaPackage and CloudFront
AWS documents LL-HLS delivery through MediaPackage and CloudFront as a separate architecture, not as the Elemental Live chunked-DASH procedure. For CloudFront manifest requests used for LL-HLS blocking playlist requests, forward the _HLS_msn and _HLS_part query strings. Troubleshooting the setup
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
