Streamlabs Talk Studio supports two different ways to use prerecorded video with a YouTube broadcast: schedule a whole video as a prerecorded stream, or share an MP4 during a live studio session. Use scheduling for a standalone broadcast; use video sharing when you want to introduce a clip during a session with live hosts or guests.
Choose how you want the video to appear

These are separate workflows: scheduling is for the whole broadcast, while Share adds video as a source within a session. The limits above are the values in Streamlabs’ current product guides; check the options shown in your Talk Studio account because plan limits and interface details can change.
Schedule a whole prerecorded video for YouTube
- Open Talk Studio and select Schedule. Streamlabs’ scheduling guide also lists Shift+J as the shortcut.
- Select + Schedule.
- Choose YouTube as the destination. Connect your YouTube account if Talk Studio prompts you to do so.
- Select Pre-recorded video, then upload the video file.
- Enter the stream title and description, choose the date and time, and add a thumbnail.
- Schedule the broadcast and review the scheduled entry or confirmation to make sure the destination, time, and details are correct.
- At showtime, enter the studio and start the scheduled stream using Go Live.
Scheduling sets up the event in advance; do not assume that creating the schedule alone starts the broadcast. Streamlabs’ scheduling guide directs creators to enter the studio and press Go Live at the scheduled time.
Check the file and schedule limits
- File size: 5 GB maximum, according to Streamlabs’ scheduling guide.
- Duration: up to 1 hour on Standard, or up to 2 hours on Pro/Ultra, according to that guide.
- Scheduling window: the guide states that streams can be scheduled within a 50-day window.
If the file is too large or the show is longer than your plan allows, the scheduling path may not fit. The limit is tied to the Talk Studio account tier, so verify your account’s available options before preparing the event.

Add an MP4 during a live Talk Studio session
- Open or start the Talk Studio session connected to your YouTube broadcast.
- Select Share and choose the video file you want to use.
- Confirm that the file is an MP4. Streamlabs’ screen-sharing guide says, “If you’re sharing a Video, MP4 formats accepted only.”
- Once added, find the video in the studio’s left navigation bar and select it when you want it on the broadcast. You can switch between videos during the stream.
Talk Studio does not let a shared video and a shared screen appear together on the main canvas. If you are sharing a browser tab or window instead of a local video file and want viewers to hear its sound, enable Share tab audio. Audio-sharing availability can depend on the operating system.
Check YouTube eligibility and content rights
Confirm that your channel can go live
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guide says a channel needs to be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The guide also states that livestreamers must be at least 16. Account rules can change, so check YouTube Studio for your channel’s current eligibility before scheduling.

Use video and audio you have permission to broadcast
You are responsible for having the rights needed for everything in the video, including music. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions require creators to have necessary rights for live content, including applicable music licensing rights. Streamlabs also warns that YouTube may enforce copyright on music shared through Talk Studio. Use material you own or have licensed for the broadcast.
Test before the scheduled start
YouTube recommends testing a stream and monitoring its health. Its encoder settings guide covers recommended settings for encoder-based streams; Talk Studio uses its own in-app connection, so do not treat those encoder settings as manual Talk Studio configuration. For an encoder workflow, YouTube recommends RTMPS in its encoder setup guide.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The video will not upload for a scheduled show: Check whether it exceeds the 5 GB limit or your plan’s duration limit. Confirm the scheduling window and account tier in Talk Studio.
- A video cannot be selected during a live session: Check that it is an MP4, then look for the added video in the left navigation bar.
- The shared video or screen is not appearing as expected: A screen and video cannot be on the main canvas together. Select the source you want viewers to see.
- Viewers cannot hear a browser tab: Enable Share tab audio when sharing the tab. If the option does not work, the operating system may restrict audio sharing.
- The scheduled event is not broadcasting: Scheduling does not necessarily start the session. Enter the studio at showtime and select Go Live.
- YouTube will not allow the channel to stream: Check channel verification and live-streaming restrictions in YouTube Studio. Resolve any copyright or eligibility issue before trying again.
