If Streamlabs Talk Studio stays on “Starting,” first check that your YouTube channel is eligible to go live and that the correct YouTube account and destination are connected. Then check browser permissions, your internet connection, and YouTube Studio for an error or an already-active stream. The message alone does not identify one universal cause, so work through these checks in order.
1. Confirm YouTube live eligibility and first-time setup
Streamlabs’ Talk Studio guidance documents a first-live setup for channels that have not streamed before. It says a new channel must be verified, then complete an initial live session through YouTube Studio before Talk Studio access is available. This is a documented setup path for new channels, not a step every established channel necessarily needs to repeat.
- Verify the channel. Follow YouTube’s channel verification flow. Streamlabs says verification can take about 24 hours for a newly verified channel.
- Complete a test live session in YouTube Studio. Go to Create > Go-live > Right now > Built-in webcam. Streamlabs recommends setting the test stream to Unlisted.
- Wait for Talk Studio access. Streamlabs says to wait 24 hours after that initial YouTube Studio live session before trying Talk Studio.
See Streamlabs’ Talk Studio Destination Troubleshooting and Talk Studio Streaming Destinations guides for its documented setup.
2. Verify the connected YouTube account and destination
In Talk Studio, check that the intended YouTube channel is connected and selected as the destination. If you use more than one Google or YouTube account, make sure Talk Studio authorized the right one; a browser session signed into a different account can lead to selecting the wrong destination.

As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
Streamlabs’ destination guidance advises signing out of the relevant platform domain before adding a destination when multiple accounts are involved, then authenticating the account you intend to use. After selecting the destination, confirm the stream details, such as title and description, before pressing Go Live. See Talk Studio Getting Started and Talk Studio Streaming Destinations.
3. Check browser permissions and selected devices
Talk Studio runs in a browser and requests access to your camera and microphone. If no permission prompt appeared, open the site-permissions control near the browser address bar, allow the required access, and refresh the page. Then use Talk Studio’s camera and microphone menus to choose the devices you actually want to use.

- If the camera or microphone is missing from the menu, check that it is connected and available to the browser.
- If you changed a permission or device, refresh Talk Studio and select the device again.
- If the browser shows permission as blocked, change the site setting before retrying.
These checks address browser access and device selection; they do not establish that a permission issue is the cause of every “Starting” hang. Streamlabs’ steps are in its Getting Started guide.
4. Test connection stability and upload capacity
Streamlabs recommends a stable internet connection, preferably Ethernet. Its published guidance gives these upload targets:

| Stream setting | Streamlabs upload guidance |
|---|---|
| General minimum | 5 Mbps minimum upload |
| 720p | 5 Mbps required; 10 Mbps recommended |
| 1080p | 10 Mbps required; 20 Mbps recommended |
These are Streamlabs’ published targets (2025), not a guarantee that a broadcast will start and not a universal YouTube requirement. If possible, test upload speed on the same connection you are using to stream. A wired Ethernet connection is an optional way to test Streamlabs’ stability recommendation when your computer and router support it; it will not resolve account verification or destination authorization problems. The targets appear in Streamlabs’ Talk Studio Getting Started guidance.
5. Check YouTube Studio for errors or another active stream
Open YouTube Studio and see whether the intended live event shows an error or is already active. YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guidance recommends checking for dashboard errors and testing the outbound internet connection when the stream appears healthy locally. Talk Studio is browser-based, so apply only diagnostics that are actually available in your setup rather than assuming encoder-specific controls exist.

YouTube’s help page says a channel can have at most 10 active streams and a stream key at most 3. If either limit has been reached, another start can be blocked. Check for a broadcast left active in YouTube Studio and close it if appropriate. These limits are from YouTube’s Get started with live streaming page; troubleshooting advice is in Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.

- Time of the attempt and the exact Talk Studio status or error text.
- Whether YouTube Studio shows an error, an active event, or no event.
- The YouTube channel and destination selected in Talk Studio.
- Browser, computer, and selected camera or microphone, if relevant.
- A recent upload-speed result and whether the connection was wired or wireless.
Those observations help distinguish an eligibility or account issue from a browser, network, YouTube-side, or unresolved service problem. Do not assume a single cause from the “Starting” label alone.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running continuously rather than troubleshoot a live camera broadcast, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Your video streams as uploaded, at any quality up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot; StreamNeo also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
