Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIn OBS Studio, open Settings → Output → Streaming and set Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. If the control is not visible, change Output Mode to Advanced. YouTube’s general live-encoder guidance recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds; it does not specify a separate rule for streams from India.
Set the keyframe interval in OBS
- Open OBS Studio and select Settings.
- Select Output. If needed, change Output Mode to Advanced to expose the streaming encoder controls.
- Open the Streaming section and find Keyframe Interval.
- Set the interval to 2 seconds, then apply the change. If the encoder control uses frames rather than seconds, calculate two seconds using your streaming frame rate: 60 frames at 30 fps, or 120 frames at 60 fps. Check the control’s units before entering a value.
- Start a test stream and inspect the preview, audio, moving video, and stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room before your actual broadcast.
OBS labels and available controls can vary by version, platform, encoder, and hardware. The menu path above describes the streaming encoder controls; YouTube’s live requirements, rather than OBS recording examples, determine the two-second target. OBS advanced recording settings guide
What YouTube requires—and what the interval means
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings specify: “Keyframe frequency: Recommended 2 seconds Do not exceed 4 seconds.” YouTube live encoder settings
A keyframe interval is a duration, not a fixed frame count. At 30 fps, two seconds is 60 frames; at 60 fps, it is 120 frames. If you change frame rate, recalculate the frame count when your encoder asks for frames. The two-second duration remains the target.

YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video codecs for RTMP/RTMPS, and recommends constant bitrate (CBR). It also recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection to YouTube’s servers. The encoder, codec, and available hardware options depend on your system, but they do not change the two-second keyframe target. YouTube live encoder settings
Choose a compatible resolution and bitrate
Keyframe timing is only one part of a healthy stream. YouTube’s published H.264 bitrate recommendations include these common combinations:

These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees of picture quality or a substitute for testing your available upload capacity. Troubleshoot a keyframe warning
- Keyframes are too far apart or too frequent: Set the interval to two seconds. If the field uses frames, base the value on the stream’s actual frame rate—not a value copied from a different frame rate.
- The warning persists after you change the interval: Check YouTube’s stream-health diagnostics and review the encoder’s GOP behavior. YouTube notes that ingest errors can affect GOP size and says a closed GOP is required for optimal transcoding. YouTube live-streaming error guidance
- YouTube reports video-setting or resolution problems: Confirm that OBS’s output resolution agrees with the resolution selected for the YouTube stream, and that the bitrate is suitable for the upload connection.
- The stream looks wrong despite a correct interval: Test with representative movement and audio, review the preview and stream-health messages, and monitor health during the broadcast. A correct keyframe interval does not by itself confirm that the rest of the stream settings or connection are working.
Does streaming from India change the setting?
YouTube’s cited encoder guidance is platform-wide and gives no India-specific keyframe interval or bitrate. Use the same two-second recommendation in India, then test against the upload connection available at the actual streaming location. The published bitrate figures above are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations, not a distinct India-only specification.
