Because Talk Studio runs in a browser, keep the computer awake and connected for the broadcast. You can turn off the display separately from system sleep; changing the sleep setting is the key step.
Keep the computer awake while Talk Studio is live
Talk Studio is browser-based and does not require a desktop installation. Its live session depends on the computer and browser remaining available. The official guidance reviewed here does not say that Talk Studio continues sending a broadcast after the computer enters sleep, so do not treat sleep as a safe way to leave a Talk Studio stream running unattended.
Set the sleep timeout for the power state you will use, keep the computer powered and connected to the internet, and test the arrangement before an important broadcast. Turning off the display is different from putting the computer to sleep, so you may be able to let the screen go dark while keeping the computer awake.
Change sleep settings in Windows 11
- Open Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts.
- Set the sleep timeout so the computer will not sleep during the planned broadcast. Check the settings for both On battery and When plugged in, as applicable.
- If you are using a laptop, check its lid-close behavior. Many laptops sleep when the lid is closed; leave it open or adjust the relevant power behavior if your device allows it.
- Confirm the computer remains awake during a test broadcast. Menu choices and available options can vary by device.
Microsoft’s Windows 11 guidance describes the timeout controls in its power and sleep settings documentation.

Change sleep settings on a Mac
- Open System Settings > Lock Screen and review the Turn display off choices for the power state you will use.
- When the Mac is connected to power, check System Settings > Battery for Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off, if available, and enable it if you want the display to turn off while the computer stays awake.
- Test the Mac with the intended power and display settings before relying on it for a long broadcast.
Apple’s settings and wording can differ by macOS version and Mac model; consult Apple’s support documentation for your device.
Keep the connection stable
Streamlabs recommends Ethernet where practical and publishes these upload-speed requirements and recommendations for Talk Studio. They are Streamlabs’ guidance, not independent test results.

Streamlabs lists 5 Mbps as the minimum upload speed in its Talk Studio Getting Started guide, published October 24, 2023 and last updated October 1, 2025. For an important stream, test the connection and broadcast quality in advance; a stable connection does not replace the need to prevent system sleep.
End the broadcast deliberately
To take a Talk Studio broadcast offline, use the End Stream button. Streamlabs says, “If you do not press the End Stream button, your stream will not go offline.” This is guidance on ending a broadcast, not a promise that it will continue transmitting if the computer sleeps.

If the broadcast must continue without your computer
YouTube documents encoder workflows, including computer software and standalone hardware encoders. That is a separate streaming setup; it does not establish that a Talk Studio broadcast survives system sleep. You can review YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance if you are considering a different workflow.
