For a relaxing fireplace loop, start with 1080p at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 5 Mbps video bitrate. That is a practical starting setup for a mostly static scene—not a special YouTube preset. Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it, leave upload bandwidth above the stream’s total bitrate, and test the loop’s picture and sound before going live.

YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, and live streams up to 60 fps. The table’s 1080p30 H.264 settings are a straightforward baseline; check the YouTube encoder settings and bitrate guidance if you choose a different codec, resolution, or frame rate.
Choose 30 fps or 60 fps
For a mostly static fireplace, 1080p30 is a sensible first choice. If the flame movement in your source looks better at 60 fps and your connection can sustain the higher bitrate, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps H.264 for 1080p60, compared with 5 Mbps for 1080p30. The higher frame rate uses substantially more upload capacity; it is not automatically an improvement for every ambience loop.
Choose based on the source material and a stable connection, rather than upscaling or increasing frame rate without a visible benefit. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so consult its encoder table for settings outside these two examples.

Check upload capacity before going live
Use your measured upload speed, not download speed, to judge whether the connection can carry the stream. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom beyond the total streaming bitrate. Include any other simultaneous streams using the same connection when estimating the total.
- At 5 Mbps video bitrate, plan for more than 5 Mbps of available upload capacity; apply YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom to the total stream bitrate.
- For audio or multiple simultaneous streams, account for their bitrate too. YouTube’s headroom recommendation applies to the total streaming bitrate, not just the video setting.
- Prefer a stable connection over one that briefly reaches a high speed. An Ethernet cable is an optional way to connect to the router, but it cannot guarantee that an unstable internet service will be fixed.

Create the stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Choose the visibility you want: public, private, or unlisted.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the live-stream setup, then enter them in your encoder. A stream key is sensitive: YouTube describes it as functioning like the password and address for the feed, so do not share or publish it.
- Set the encoder to the chosen resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval. Select RTMPS if supported by the encoder.
- Start a test transmission before the planned broadcast and check YouTube’s stream health messages in the Live Control Room.
First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours. Enable it well before the broadcast rather than waiting until the scheduled start. YouTube’s workflow and stream controls are described in its encoder setup instructions and live stream settings guidance.
Test the fireplace loop, audio, and stream health
Before the public broadcast, test with audio and movement similar to the actual stream. YouTube specifically advises testing the planned audio and video and monitoring stream health and messages. For a loop, also check the transition from the end back to the beginning: a visible jump, sudden silence, or abrupt audio cut can be distracting even when the encoder settings are correct.

- Watch and listen across at least one complete loop boundary.
- Check that the ambience track does not clip, stop unexpectedly, or leave an unintended gap.
- Confirm that the encoder remains connected and YouTube reports healthy incoming video and audio.
- Recheck after changing the source file, encoder settings, or network setup.
Choose latency and DVR for an ambience stream
For a fireplace stream with little or no audience interaction, prioritize stable playback over the lowest possible latency. YouTube notes that lower latency can mean more buffering and is less important when the streamer is not interacting with viewers.
DVR is optional. When enabled, it lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume the live stream. Decide whether that viewing control suits the experience you want; it is separate from the encoder’s bitrate and keyframe settings. YouTube explains latency and DVR in its live stream settings guidance.

Troubleshoot common fireplace stream problems
Stream health reports instability or the stream disconnects
Check measured upload capacity against the total bitrate, including other streams, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Test the connection’s stability and reduce the stream bitrate if the available upload cannot sustain it. A wired Ethernet connection can be tried as a setup change, but it does not guarantee a fix for problems with the internet service itself.
The picture stutters or buffers for viewers
Check whether the upload connection can consistently carry the selected bitrate. If using 1080p60 at YouTube’s recommended 14 Mbps H.264 bitrate, consider 1080p30 at 5 Mbps when the higher setting is not sustainable or does not materially improve the flame motion.

YouTube does not receive the encoder feed
Verify that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current stream key, that it is set to a supported ingestion protocol, and that the encoder is actively sending. Treat the stream key as a password; if it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube’s controls and update the encoder with the new value.
The loop has a visible jump or audio gap
Inspect the source file’s ending and beginning, then test the transition while monitoring both picture and sound. This is a content-loop issue rather than something a higher bitrate or lower latency setting necessarily fixes.
Live streaming is not enabled in time
Enable live streaming in advance. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so a last-minute setup can delay the broadcast.
HLS is available, but the stream does not need special production features
Use the protocol your encoder supports and your production requires. YouTube’s HLS guidance says HLS has higher latency because it sends video segments rather than a continuous stream; for a simple, non-interactive loop, that is unlikely to be an advantage. RTMPS is YouTube’s general recommendation when supported.
