When OBS’s network dropped frames counter rises during a YouTube loop stream, first test the connection rather than changing the video loop: connect the computer to the router by Ethernet, run a representative test stream, and lower the video bitrate until OBS and YouTube report a stable connection. A loop still needs OBS to send the encoded video continuously over your internet connection.
Confirm that the problem is network dropped frames
Open OBS’s Stats window or watch its status bar while streaming. If the network dropped-frame counter is increasing, OBS is reporting trouble delivering the stream to YouTube. OBS explains that dropped frames mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate (OBS connection troubleshooting). This is different from rendering lag or encoder overload: if one of those counters is rising instead, the network steps below may not address the cause.
Record the counter, the time, and whether the drops happen continuously or mainly at particular hours. That evidence will help you compare tests and, if needed, report the problem to BSNL.
Test under conditions that match the loop stream
Before relying on a continuous loop, run a test stream with audio and movement similar to the actual video. Watch OBS’s dropped-frame counter and YouTube’s stream health and messages, and note when problems appear. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and checking stream health before relying on a live broadcast (YouTube live encoder settings).

- Powerful Dual-Core 900MHz Processor – Handles multiple data streams simultaneously for reliable performance across your devices. Ensures smooth streaming, online gaming, and video conferencing without buffering or lag.
A speed test is useful context, but a single result does not prove that your connection can sustain a stream continuously. OBS suggests using about 75% of total upload speed as a starting bitrate, not as a guarantee. Household traffic and changes in connection quality can reduce the capacity available to OBS.
Remove Wi-Fi from the connection path
- Connect the streaming computer directly to the router using Ethernet, if practical. OBS recommends a wired connection when streaming because it removes Wi-Fi instability as a variable.
- Restart the modem and router, then repeat the representative test.
- If you have access to a known-good spare Ethernet cable or router, test with it to isolate the hardware. Do not assume a device needs replacing unless the comparison points to it.
Compare the OBS counter and YouTube stream health during similar tests. If Ethernet stops the drops, focus on the Wi-Fi signal, interference, or wireless equipment rather than immediately changing the BSNL plan.

Lower the bitrate to fit the stable upload
In OBS, reduce the video bitrate in measured steps, then run another comparable test and watch whether the network dropped-frame counter stops rising. Leave room for upload variation and other people or devices using the connection.
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists these recommended H.264 video bitrates:
Rank #3
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
| Output setting | YouTube recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not measured BSNL upload speeds or a promise that a particular line can sustain them. Set OBS to a bitrate your connection can actually maintain; it may need to be below YouTube’s recommendation if the available upload is limited or variable. Keep the codec, resolution, and frame rate in mind when comparing your settings with YouTube’s figures.
Test OBS network settings one at a time
- Bind to IP: leave this at Default.
- IP family: temporarily test IPv4 Only. If it does not improve stability, restore the default IPv4/IPv6 setting.
- Windows network options: test Enable network optimizations and TCP pacing, changing one setting at a time so you can tell whether it affected the result.
- Dynamic bitrate: consider it as a fallback if congestion cannot be resolved. It can reduce drops by lowering bitrate during congestion, but picture quality may fall and it does not fix the underlying connection problem.

- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Check software and the route to YouTube
- Temporarily test without a VPN. If that changes the result, investigate the VPN route rather than treating the test alone as proof of a permanent fix.
- Check whether security software or network-priority and “optimization” tools interfere with OBS. Re-enable security protection after testing; add an OBS exception only if the test identifies the software as a cause.
- Update the network adapter driver using the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s support channel.
- If available, compare another YouTube ingest/server option while keeping other settings unchanged. A difference may help locate where the problem occurs, but it does not by itself prove who is at fault.
When to contact BSNL
If drops continue over Ethernet at a reduced bitrate, collect evidence and ask BSNL to check line stability and the route during affected times. The available information does not establish whether your service is fiber, DSL, or AirFiber, what upload rate your plan provides, or whether your area or route is experiencing a fault; do not assume throttling or that a plan upgrade is necessary.
BSNL’s official customer-care page lists 1800-4444 for Bharat Fiber, broadband, and landline support. The BSNL self-care portal also offers technical complaint registration. Support routes can vary by circle and access technology, so check the contact path shown for your own service.
