Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →YouTube can reject a live stream when the video’s actual width and height do not match the resolution selected in Live Control Room’s Ingestion Settings. Read the exact stream-health error, compare the selected resolution with the encoder’s output dimensions, and make them match. YouTube’s published live-stream guidance does not describe a separate resolution rule for 24/7 streams.
What “incorrect video size” means
The resolution YouTube expects is tied to the setting selected in Live Control Room’s Ingestion Settings. The video sent by your encoder must have the height and width for that selected resolution. For example, if the selected setting is 1920 × 1080, the encoder must send 1920 × 1080 video—not a different size, even if the picture looks similar.
YouTube normally detects encoder settings automatically. If you use a custom stream key and have manually set a resolution, check that setting as well as the encoder output. The key question is whether the dimensions being sent match the dimensions YouTube expects.
Check the error and match the settings
- Open Live Control Room and inspect stream health. Note the exact message and its timestamp. “Incorrect video size (resolution)” points to a dimension mismatch; a different message may identify another encoder setting.
- Read the encoder’s actual output dimensions. Check the outgoing stream configuration, not just the source file’s resolution. Confirm the width and height being sent.
- Compare with Ingestion Settings. Set the encoder output to the selected resolution, or change the selected resolution to match what the encoder sends.
- If using a custom stream key, check manual settings. Confirm its Stream Resolution setting is the one you intend. YouTube recommends automatic detection by default.
- Preview and monitor stream health before relying on the feed. Resolve any remaining messages and verify that the stream is stable at the intended settings.
Check the other settings that can produce errors
A resolution warning can appear alongside another encoder issue, so do not stop at dimensions if Live Control Room reports additional problems. YouTube’s current English encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends progressive scan and square pixels, with keyframes every two seconds and no more than four seconds apart. Follow YouTube’s current guidance for your selected protocol and codec: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

#1 Best Overall
- 【Hardware H.265/H.264 Encoding at 1080P60】Dedicated hardware encoder delivers broadcast-quality 1080P60 streams with H.265/H.264 compression. Reduces bandwidth usage by up to 50% compared to legacy H.264-only solutions, while maintaining crisp, crystal-clear video output.
- 【Broad Protocol Support for IP Distribution】 Supports SRT, RTMP(S), RTSP, UDP, HTTP, HLS, WebRTC, TRTC, Icecast and SHOUTcast — integrate seamlessly with CDNs, surveillance NVRs, IPTV systems and browser-based monitoring dashboards. One device replaces multiple single-purpose streaming boxes.
- 【Browser-Based Setup in Minutes】 Set up in minutes through any browser — no software, drivers or OS compatibility issues. DHCP is enabled by default to prevent IP address conflicts on your network. Note: basic networking knowledge (IP address, RTSP/RTMP configuration) is recommended for advanced streaming setups.
- 【Compact Design with Flexible Deployment】Palm-sized form factor (approx. 90×54×29mm) fits easily behind monitors, on shelves, or in equipment racks. Low power consumption ensures reliable 24/7 operation for live events, remote monitoring, and digital signage.
- 【Professional Audio & OSD Overlay + 1-Year Warranty】 Supports HDMI embedded audio plus external 3.5mm input. Built-in OSD generator adds scrolling text, logos, or timestamps directly to the video stream — ideal for branding, event info, or security labeling. Backed by a 1-year warranty and 24/7 online technical support.
- Bitrate: Choose a bitrate appropriate for the codec, resolution, and frame rate. Examples from YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include 1080p at 30 fps: 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended; and 720p at 30 fps: 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. For AV1 or H.265 at 1080p30, the listed figures are 4 Mbps minimum and 10 Mbps recommended. These are recommendations, not guarantees that your encoder or connection can sustain them.
- Connection capacity: If upload bandwidth cannot reliably support the chosen mode, lower the selected resolution and use a bitrate suited to the connection. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and choosing a quality your connection can sustain.
- Video format and scan: Check the reported video codec and format, and use progressive rather than interlaced video.
- Frame rate and keyframes: Confirm the frame rate is supported and keyframes are approximately two seconds apart, never more than four seconds apart.
- Audio: Check that the audio codec and format are supported.
- Backup feed: If you use primary and backup streams, verify that their settings match.
YouTube’s encoder page says it automatically detects the encoder settings chosen. If you need to identify the precise problem, use the health message together with the encoder’s actual width × height, codec, frame rate, and bitrate.
Choosing a reliable resolution for a continuous stream
The highest available resolution is not automatically the best setting for a 24/7 feed. Choose a mode your encoder can send at exactly the selected dimensions, your connection can sustain at the appropriate bitrate, and your backup feed can match if you use one. A lower, stable resolution is preferable to a higher mode that repeatedly drops or generates health errors.

Before leaving a continuous stream unattended, preview it and monitor stream health. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend testing failover by stopping the primary feed or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then checking that the player switches to the backup feed. See Live streaming tips.
Common causes and fixes
| What you see | Likely issue | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| “Incorrect video size (resolution)” | Encoder output width and height do not match the selected Ingestion Settings resolution. | Compare actual output dimensions with the selected setting and make them identical. |
| Manual resolution is unexpected | A custom stream key may have manual resolution settings. | Check Stream Resolution for that key, or use automatic detection. |
| Resolution matches but health errors continue | A separate bitrate, codec, format, audio, scan, frame-rate, or keyframe issue may also be present. | Read each health message and verify the encoder against YouTube’s current settings guidance. |
| Frequent quality problems or dropped stream | The selected mode may exceed reliable upload capacity. | Test upload bitrate and consider lowering resolution and bitrate to a sustainable combination. |
| Backup does not take over cleanly | Primary and backup stream settings may differ, or failover may not be configured as expected. | Match settings and test by stopping the primary feed before depending on failover. |
