To help people find a YouTube radio stream while it is live, set it to Public, use an accurate title and description that match the program and likely listener searches, and make sure the stream actually delivers what those details promise. YouTube says search ranking considers how well the title, description, and video content match a query, along with engagement for that search; view count alone does not determine placement.
Make the live stream public
In YouTube Studio, set the stream’s visibility to Public if you want general viewers to be able to discover it. Private and unlisted streams are not intended for general search discovery. Before the broadcast, open the viewer-facing watch page and check that it is accessible; YouTube does not guarantee that every public stream will appear in every search or recommendation surface.
YouTube’s live-stream tips also recommend checking access through your channel and watch pages, including on a mobile device. A working stream setup is necessary for people to watch, but visibility and access do not guarantee search placement.
Write a title and description that match the broadcast
Choose words listeners would actually search
Be specific about the radio format, subject, event, guest, or music genre. For example, a title such as “Live Punjabi devotional music radio” is more informative than “24/7 live radio” if that is what the stream contains. Use the description to explain what listeners will hear, when relevant, and any useful program details.

Keep the wording accurate. YouTube’s guidance says search considers how well the title, description, and video content match the viewer’s query, as well as which videos drive engagement for that search. A title or description that promises one kind of program while the stream delivers another can undermine that match. Avoid stuffing unrelated keywords into either field, and use an accurate thumbnail.
Do not treat view count as a ranking formula
YouTube does not simply list the most-viewed videos first. Its published guidance identifies query relevance and engagement for the search as ranking factors; it does not provide a guaranteed position or a formula that creators can use to secure one.

Use tags sparingly
Add a tag when it helps clarify a relevant term, especially a common misspelling of a name or topic. Otherwise, do not spend much time building a long tag list: YouTube says tags play a minimal role in discovery in most cases.
Schedule the stream if subscribers should get advance notice
Scheduling can show an upcoming stream to subscribers, who may choose Notify me. This is useful for reaching subscribers before the broadcast; it is not a search-ranking technique or a promise that the stream will appear for a particular query.

Consider vertical live as a separate discovery route
YouTube says vertical live streams can appear in the mobile Shorts feed, while its feature comparison distinguishes this from horizontal live streams. That gives vertical live an additional potential discovery surface, not a guaranteed search boost. Choose the format based on the viewing experience and features your broadcast needs; YouTube documents differences between vertical and horizontal live, including clickable links and ads.
Measure how viewers are finding the stream
After going live, use the stream’s analytics in YouTube Studio to see which discovery sources and search terms are bringing viewers in. Compare the measures rather than treating any one number as a verdict:

- Traffic sources and Search terms: See whether viewers arrive from YouTube Search, Suggested videos, playlists, or external sources, and which queries appear in the Search report.
- Impressions and click-through rate: These help you assess whether people who are shown the stream’s offering choose to click.
- Views and average view duration: These help show whether people enter the stream and how long they stay.
Use the actual query wording and performance patterns to refine titles, descriptions, and future programming. Analytics can inform your choices, but they cannot establish that a metadata change alone caused a ranking result.

Searchability is separate from whether YouTube captures a replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. If preserving the broadcast matters, keep a local archive backup rather than relying on the replay being available.

An encoder sends the feed to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. Latency and DVR settings affect the viewing experience; YouTube’s documentation does not identify them as search-ranking factors. You do not need expensive equipment just to improve search placement: microphones, cameras, and encoders serve production or delivery needs, not a documented ranking requirement.
