For automated captures, supply the session cookies through a server-side integration. The right method depends on how the site authenticates: a login-form post works only in a limited redirect scenario, while HTTP basic authentication is for sites that use the browser’s basic-auth prompt.
Choose the authentication method that fits the capture

GrabzIt describes cookie import as its easiest and most reliable way to replicate a session. See its instructions for capturing a page behind a login. For automated captures, use the relevant GrabzIt API documentation and language-specific reference.
Import cookies for a capture through the web interface
- Sign in to the target website in a browser and open the page you want to capture. Confirm that the account can access that page.
- Export the signed-in session’s cookies in the Netscape cookie-file format. GrabzIt describes this as a text file with one cookie per line and fields such as domain, path, expiration, and value.
- Import the cookie file into GrabzIt using its Cookie Importer, then configure the screenshot capture for the target URL.
- Run the capture and inspect the result. If it shows a login screen or incomplete content, check whether the session needs additional cookies or cookies scoped to subdomains.
Cookie files are effectively session credentials: anyone who can use a valid session cookie may be able to access the account until the session expires or is revoked. Export them only from an account you are authorized to use, protect the file, and remove it when it is no longer needed. GrabzIt says its imported cookie files are transmitted over HTTPS, stored securely, used only for captures initiated by the account holder, and inaccessible to other users; that is the vendor’s own security statement, not an independent assessment. For sensitive sites, use a dedicated account with limited permissions and follow your organization’s data-handling rules.
Supply session cookies in an automated workflow
For application-driven captures, set the session cookies through GrabzIt’s server-side API integration. The cookie values and method names depend on the language library and the session data you have; use the matching API reference rather than assuming one library’s parameters apply to another. GrabzIt’s API overview describes its application key and secret, and its Node.js API documentation covers custom cookie methods and capture status.

- Obtain the session cookies through an authorized server-side sign-in or another approved session-management process.
- Include all cookies required by the target page when configuring the capture. Check the cookie domain and path; authentication, API, and application subdomains may set different cookies.
- Keep the GrabzIt application secret and session cookies on the server. Do not embed them in browser JavaScript, a public page, or a client-side application bundle.
- Restrict access to the account and credentials. GrabzIt’s API overview says access can be restricted by domain and IP address; for its JavaScript API, its documentation recommends authorizing the domains permitted to use an application key.
- Check the capture’s processing, cache, or expiry status using the methods in the language-specific reference if your application needs to report or retry capture state.
For scheduled or repeated captures, refresh or replace the session cookies when the target site expires them. A cookie copied once should not be assumed to remain valid indefinitely.
What to try when the capture shows a login page
- Check for missing cookies: A site can require multiple session cookies. Export or supply the full set needed for the authenticated page, not just one cookie that appears to contain a session identifier.
- Check subdomain scope: Cookies may belong to the main site or a subdomain used for authentication, APIs, or the application itself. GrabzIt warns that missing subdomain cookies can cause an incomplete capture or a redirect back to login.
- Confirm the session is still valid: Reopen the target URL in the signed-in browser. If the browser itself is redirected to login, obtain a fresh session using an authorized account.
- Check access to page resources: With HTML submission, the page may have markup but still fail to render correctly if its CSS, scripts, images, or other resources require authentication or are otherwise restricted.
- Match the method to the login flow: Posting credentials is documented for a successful login that redirects to the desired page, not as universal support for every form, redirect chain, or multi-step sign-in.
- Do not assume challenge handling: The documentation does not establish that every authentication flow works. Do not promise that multi-factor challenges, bot checks, or site-specific login steps will be supported without testing the exact authorized site.
Output options and capture dimensions
GrabzIt’s API suite supports screenshots as well as conversions such as PDF and DOCX. Its ASP.NET image-capture documentation lists JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, and TIFF output. It also describes BrowserHeight = -1 for a full-length screenshot and setting output width and height to -1 to match browser dimensions. Will a cookie file work for every website that requires login?
No. Cookie import depends on the target site’s session design and on providing the cookies and resources needed for the page. The documented methods do not establish that every authentication flow will work.

Can I use browser JavaScript to pass an HTTP-only session cookie?
No. GrabzIt’s support guidance says to use a server-side language because client-side JavaScript cannot access HTTP-only cookies commonly used for sessions.
