To create a YouTube radio stream with rotating station logos, send an encoder stream from OBS to YouTube Live: build an OBS scene with your audio and artwork, then use a looping media source or a prepared visual sequence for the changing logos. YouTube receives the finished audio-and-video output; OBS combines it.
Check that your channel can livestream
Before preparing the broadcast, make sure the YouTube channel is verified and has had no livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and choose the encoder workflow. YouTube describes encoder streaming as useful for productions that need overlays or external audio and video equipment. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Build the radio scene in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, add the audio source you will use for the radio program and add the station artwork as an image or visual media source.
- Arrange the composition. Position and size the artwork so the station identity is clear in the video frame. If logos should change during the broadcast, use a visual sequence prepared to rotate them, or use OBS’s still-image slideshow controls if they are available in your installed version and meet your timing needs.
- Preview before going live. Check that the artwork is legible and that the audio is audible without clipping. Listen to the complete scene rather than assuming the source levels will sound right on air.
OBS’s published media-source guidance documents looping media and playlist options, but does not establish the exact current controls or timing workflow for a still-image logo slideshow. OBS labels can change between versions, so verify the slideshow behavior in your installed version before relying on it for timed changes. A prepared visual sequence exported as a supported media file is another way to combine timed logo changes into one asset.
Choose how audio or visuals repeat
One local media file
For a single local media file, add an OBS Media Source and enable its Loop property. This is the straightforward choice when the file itself contains the audio and visuals you want repeated.

A playlist of files
For multiple media items, OBS documents a VLC Video source with playlist, Loop Playlist, and Shuffle Playlist controls. VLC is a separate dependency: install it, and match its architecture to OBS. A 64-bit OBS installation requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.
Decide whether the station needs a fixed sequence or shuffled playback before choosing the source. A playlist controls media playback; it does not, by itself, establish a specific timed rotation for still images layered separately in the scene.
Connect OBS to YouTube and start the stream
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room for the stream you created or scheduled and select the encoder instructions for that broadcast.
- Copy the stream key and settings shown for the broadcast into OBS’s streaming configuration. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the Live Control Room preview before sending the broadcast live to viewers.
- During the stream, watch the OBS connection indicator and dropped-frame counter, as well as YouTube Studio’s status. OBS guidance says an increasing dropped-frame count with a yellow or red connection indicator points to an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate.
The sources cited here do not establish a universal bitrate recommendation or a complete plan for unattended 24/7 operation. Choose encoder settings for the stream and connection you actually have, and do not treat an apparently working start as proof that a computer or network will remain available indefinitely.
Clear music rights before you broadcast
Use only music for which you have appropriate rights for this use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it temporarily, or terminate it. YouTube says that licensed third-party content may still require the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license or territorial restriction alone does not guarantee that the live broadcast will avoid interruption. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
