Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →It depends on the bitrate and how many hours of unique video you keep—not simply on the fact that your channel streams 24/7. As a planning example, YouTube’s recommended 1080p SDR upload bitrate of 8 Mbps works out to about 3.6 GB per hour, or 86.4 GB for 24 hours. Its 4K SDR recommendation of 35–45 Mbps works out to about 15.75–20.25 GB per hour, or 378–486 GB for 24 hours. These are estimates based on YouTube’s upload guidance, not measurements of a particular cartoon channel’s files.
Calculate storage from the videos you will keep
Use the files’ actual average bitrate when you can. If you do not yet have sample exports, the YouTube upload recommendations below provide useful planning examples. The formula estimates decimal storage for video data:
Storage in GB = bitrate in Mbps × 3,600 seconds per hour ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000 × hours retained
For example, at 8 Mbps: 8 × 3,600 ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000 = 3.6 GB per hour. Multiply that hourly estimate by the number of hours of unique material in your library. The calculation excludes audio, container overhead, project files, alternate exports, and backup copies, so the capacity you provision may need to be higher.

Example estimates using YouTube’s SDR upload guidance
YouTube Help recommends different upload bitrates by resolution and frame-rate category. The estimates below apply the video bitrate alone; they are arithmetic projections, not channel measurements or storage requirements set by YouTube.
| Example export assumption | Approx. video per hour | Approx. 24 hours | Approx. 365 days of new material |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p SDR, standard frame rate, 8 Mbps | 3.6 GB | 86.4 GB | 31.5 TB |
| 4K SDR, standard frame rate, 35 Mbps | 15.75 GB | 378 GB | 138 TB |
| 4K SDR, standard frame rate, 45 Mbps | 20.25 GB | 486 GB | 177.4 TB |
The annual column assumes 24 hours of unique content every day for 365 days, with nothing deleted. It does not describe a typical channel or a YouTube requirement. If you keep a rolling archive, calculate for the number of retained hours instead: at the 1080p example rate, 30 days of continuous unique material is about 2.59 TB before overhead and backups.

Use the settings that match your actual exports
YouTube Help’s recommended upload encoding settings describe upload recommendations, not mandatory settings for an archive. Its figures vary with resolution, frame rate, and SDR or HDR. Your cartoon exports may have a different bitrate and file size, so treat these values as examples rather than a prediction of your library.
| YouTube upload example | Recommended video bitrate | Estimated video storage per hour |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p SDR, standard frame rate (24, 25, or 30 fps) | 8 Mbps | 3.6 GB |
| 1080p SDR, high frame rate (48, 50, or 60 fps) | 12 Mbps | 5.4 GB |
| 2160p (4K) SDR, standard frame rate (24, 25, or 30 fps) | 35–45 Mbps | 15.75–20.25 GB |
| 2160p (4K) SDR, high frame rate (48, 50, or 60 fps) | 53–68 Mbps | 23.85–30.6 GB |
| 1080p HDR, standard frame rate | 10 Mbps | 4.5 GB |
| 2160p (4K) HDR, standard frame rate | 44–56 Mbps | 19.8–25.2 GB |
YouTube also recommends 384 kbps stereo audio. The table’s storage estimates use the video bitrate alone, so audio and file-container data add to the actual file size. These bitrate recommendations do not imply that every cartoon needs those settings; choose an export that suits your content and workflow.

Plan for unique videos, retention, and copies
A 24/7 broadcast schedule does not automatically mean you need a new 24 hours of storage every day. If the same set of cartoons is looped, the archive size is determined by the unique files retained. If you continually add new episodes and keep them all, storage grows with the total runtime of that material.
- Measure a representative export: check the file size and runtime of a sample made with your intended resolution, frame rate, codec, and export settings. For a varied library, use several representative files to estimate an average size per hour.
- Set a retention period: multiply the hourly estimate by the hours of unique content you intend to keep. A rolling archive of a fixed duration has a different capacity need from a growing collection retained indefinitely.
- Include everything you intend to preserve: add space for audio and container overhead, editing projects, alternate renders, and any other source assets you want to retain. The formula does not include them.
- Count backup copies separately: if you keep additional copies, include their capacity in your plan. Choose an allowance based on your files and backup plan; YouTube does not specify a general storage-overhead percentage.
- Choose storage for the workflow: decide whether the working library needs to be online, portable, or backed up off-site. This calculation estimates capacity; it does not establish which storage device or provider is right for you.
Keep the video archive separate from the live-stream setup
Storage for a cartoon library and the method used to keep a YouTube live stream running are separate decisions. StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on a YouTube channel: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Its cloud playback means a computer and home connection do not need to remain on. Learn more at StreamNeo.

Upload your video or create a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded material from the cloud. It does not replace your archive or determine how much storage your complete video library needs.
