Add and save the subtitle track in YouTube Studio before you schedule the video as a Premiere. Open Subtitles, select the video and language, choose a subtitle method, and save or publish the track. Then schedule the video and select Set as Premiere.

Add subtitles in YouTube Studio

  1. Open the video. Sign in to YouTube Studio. Upload the video, or open it in Studio if it is already uploaded. You can add subtitles during upload or later from the dedicated Subtitles area.
  2. Choose the subtitle language. In the left menu, select Subtitles, select the video, choose Add language, and select the language for the track.
  3. Start a subtitle track. Under Subtitles, choose Add, then select the method that fits your materials.
  4. Save or publish the track. Follow the editor’s prompts to finish. With auto-sync, YouTube says alignment can take a few minutes; the transcript is automatically published when ready.

Choose a subtitle method

Method Best when What to know
Upload file You have a prepared subtitle or caption file. The file contains spoken text and timestamps; some formats can also include position and style information. YouTube asks whether the file has timing. Check the current in-product prompt for supported formats.
Auto-sync You have a transcript but no timing. Enter or upload the transcript. It must match the spoken language, which must be supported by YouTube speech recognition. YouTube does not recommend this option for videos over an hour or with poor audio quality.
Type manually You want to enter and time captions in the editor. Type while the video plays; YouTube sets timings automatically. Include relevant non-speech sounds, such as applause or thunder, so viewers can understand what is happening.
Automatic captions YouTube has generated captions for the video. Availability depends on YouTube’s speech recognition. The cited Help guidance says automatic captions are in the video’s default language. Review them for accuracy and completeness before relying on them.

Schedule the video as a Premiere

  1. In YouTube Studio, upload or select the video and choose Schedule.
  2. Enter the date and time, then check Set as Premiere.
  3. Complete the Premiere setup and choose Schedule or Done, as prompted.

You can prepare and save subtitles before the Premiere begins; you do not have to wait until the scheduled start. The Premiere creates a public watch page that you can share in advance, where viewers can set reminders, comment, and chat.

Check Premiere eligibility and timing

  • YouTube’s Premiere help page lists Shorts, 360/VR180 videos, and output greater than 1080p as unsupported for Premieres.
  • A Community Guidelines strike can prevent a scheduled Premiere from publishing during the penalty period. You may need to reschedule after that period.
  • YouTube says scheduling at least 24 hours in advance gives audiences around the world an opportunity to see the thumbnail in their subscriptions feed. This is a platform tip, not a guarantee of reach or attendance.

Delegate subtitles to an editor

YouTube’s Subtitle Editor role gives access only to the Subtitles section. The channel owner or manager must set the video language for an editor to work on that video. YouTube says this role is not available when using a Brand Account.

Or let it run in the cloud

Subtitles and Premiere scheduling are handled in YouTube Studio. If you separately want uploaded videos to keep looping as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
