To put a logo over a YouTube gaming stream, add it as an Image source in the OBS scene that goes live, then move it above the gameplay or video source in the Sources list. Position and resize it in the preview. This adds the logo to the outgoing video—not to your YouTube channel avatar or to a video after upload.

Here, “VOD” means recorded gameplay being played as a live broadcast. The same steps work for a live-captured game, and the resulting broadcast may also have a YouTube replay. Those are separate outcomes: YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a complete replay, make a local recording too.

Choose the video source that goes under the logo

The logo itself is an image source in either setup. The source underneath it depends on whether you are capturing a game as it runs or playing recorded footage.

Video source Use it for Relevant detail
Game Capture or another live capture source A game running on the computer and captured live Place the logo above the capture source. OBS says Game Capture is Windows-only. OBS Sources Guide
Media Source A local gameplay recording Supports local video files including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, and has a Loop option. OBS Media Sources
VLC Video A playlist of recorded gameplay Can play and loop a playlist; VLC must be installed. OBS Media Sources

For a continuous prerecorded stream, use a Media Source for one file or VLC Video for a playlist. A transparent PNG is a useful logo format when you want the game to show through around the artwork, but it is not required.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0

Add and position the logo in OBS

  1. Select the outgoing scene. Open OBS and choose the scene that will send video to YouTube. If you do not have a suitable scene, create one.
  2. Add the logo. In the Sources dock, select +, choose Image, and browse to your logo file.
  3. Put it above the video source. In the Sources list, drag the logo above the Game Capture, Media Source, VLC Video, or other source it should cover. OBS source order determines overlap: a source higher in the list appears on top and can hide what is beneath it. See the OBS Sources Guide.
  4. Place and size it. Select the logo in the preview and drag it to a corner or other clear area. Drag its bounding-box handles to resize. For precise placement, use Edit → Transform → Edit Transform.
  5. Check the view beneath it. Make sure the logo does not obscure a minimap, subtitles, health bars, or other game information viewers need.
  6. Confirm the scene before going live. The logo must be in the scene actually used for the outgoing broadcast. If you switch scenes, check whether the newly active scene also contains the overlay.

OBS documents scene composition and source layering, not YouTube Live Control Room setup. The steps here cover the OBS overlay; they do not change your channel avatar or add a logo to an already-uploaded video.

Loop recorded gameplay under the logo

One local recording

  1. In the selected scene’s Sources dock, select + and add a Media Source.
  2. Choose the local recording file in the source properties. OBS documents support for formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM.
  3. Enable the source’s Loop option if you want the file to repeat.
  4. Keep the Image source above the Media Source in the Sources list, then verify the result in the preview.

A playlist of recordings

  1. Install VLC if it is not already installed.
  2. Add a VLC Video source and select the files for the playlist.
  3. Enable playlist looping in the source settings, then check playback and logo layering in the preview.

OBS describes the Media Source and VLC Video options in its Media Sources guide. A looped source keeps feeding video to the OBS scene; it does not by itself guarantee that YouTube will preserve one uninterrupted broadcast as a complete replay.

Understand the YouTube replay limit for a continuous stream

YouTube Help states: “If your live stream is less than 12 hours long, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It also cautions: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” The wording is conditional: an under-12-hour broadcast is not guaranteed an archive, and the guidance does not say every longer broadcast will lack one. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

If the complete replay matters, record locally as a backup and check your channel’s archive after the broadcast. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive; do not rely on a single continuous broadcast being saved in full.

Troubleshoot a logo that is missing or misplaced

  • The logo is hidden by gameplay: Move the Image source higher in the Sources list. A source above another appears on top.
  • The logo is in the preview but not on the broadcast: Check that you are live from the scene containing the logo, rather than another scene without it.
  • The logo is too large or small: Select it in the preview and drag a bounding-box handle, or use Edit → Transform → Edit Transform for more precise sizing.
  • The logo covers important game information: Drag it to a less intrusive corner or reduce its size.
  • The recorded video stops instead of repeating: Check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source, or enable playlist looping for VLC Video. VLC Video requires VLC to be installed.
  • The continuous stream has no complete YouTube replay: YouTube says an archive can be made for streams under 12 hours and warns that a longer stream may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording if replay completeness matters.
