For most solo creators looping prerecorded bhajans with a fixed visual, OBS is the easier default. Its scenes and sources provide a visible way to build the stream, and its media sources can loop a local file or playlist. FFmpeg is a reasonable choice if you already know how to configure and supervise a command-line media pipeline. The available evidence does not establish that either option is more reliable or efficient for nonstop broadcasting.

Whichever you choose, YouTube’s encoder guidance—not the software choice—sets the key streaming requirements: use RTMPS, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and a bitrate suited to your resolution and actual upload connection. If you cannot keep a local computer running and monitored, a cloud option such as StreamNeo can play uploaded videos to YouTube without relying on your home computer.

OBS vs FFmpeg: which fits your bhajan channel?

Question OBS FFmpeg
How do you build the stream? Use a graphical scene-and-source workflow. OBS documents media sources for local files and VLC playlists. Use a command-line media pipeline. This is a workflow fit for operators comfortable configuring, launching, and supervising commands; exact commands are not established here.
What content does it suit? A useful default for a fixed devotional layout, looped video or playlist, and a production that may need scene changes or additional sources. A possible fit when the stream is a simple, deliberately configured media pipeline and the operator can manage it from the command line.
Can it guarantee a continuous stream? No. OBS documents automatic reconnect settings, but that is not an uptime promise. No comparative uptime or recovery evidence is established here.
Which should you pick? Choose it if you prefer a visible interface and want to arrange sources and scenes. Choose it if you already know how to assemble and supervise a command-line stream.

This is a workflow comparison, not a performance benchmark. There is no basis here to say FFmpeg uses less CPU, is more stable, or is more reliable than OBS. Test the actual media, host, connection, and recovery plan you intend to use.

Channel eligibility

YouTube says live streaming requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. It also requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. First-time live streaming activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Clear every part of the recording

A bhajan being devotional or traditional does not by itself establish that a particular recording is cleared for streaming. Confirm rights for the specific sound recording, performance, arrangement, artwork, and any video with the relevant rights holders. YouTube’s general policy guidance does not clear an individual asset.

Set YouTube’s encoder values for the stream

YouTube’s current encoder guide recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; it says not to exceed four seconds. Its RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, up to 60 frames per second, and AAC or MP3 audio. Use the settings YouTube lists for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually select, then check the stream health in Live Control Room.

Setting YouTube guidance How to apply it
Protocol RTMPS recommended Select RTMPS where the encoder offers it, using the server URL provided by YouTube.
Rate control CBR Set constant bitrate and verify stability during a representative test.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds Set the encoder’s keyframe interval to two seconds if available.
Video bitrate Varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate; YouTube lists 8 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30 Choose the applicable value from YouTube’s encoder settings table, and ensure your real upload connection can sustain it.
Audio AAC or MP3 Check that the stream’s devotional audio is audible and not clipping or intermittently dropping out.

The 8 Mbps figure is YouTube’s recommendation for H.264 at 720p30, not a universal bitrate for every stream. YouTube also advises testing with audio and movement similar to the intended broadcast. Use representative bhajan audio and video, monitor Live Control Room stream health, and lower the selected quality or bitrate if the actual connection cannot sustain it.

Set up a looping bhajan stream in OBS

  1. Activate and prepare the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream and copy the server URL and stream key. Keep the key private. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  2. Build one scene. In OBS, add the visual sources your layout needs—for example, a devotional image or video and the bhajan media. OBS uses scenes and sources to compose what viewers see; its overview guide explains the interface.
  3. Add media that repeats. Add a Media Source for a local file and enable loop, or use a VLC Video Source for a playlist loop. The VLC source requires VLC to be installed. See OBS Media Sources. Check that audio continues across the file ending and restart, and that any transitions between tracks are acceptable.
  4. Enter YouTube’s connection details. In OBS, open Settings, then Stream. Select the relevant YouTube service if available, or choose a custom server and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. OBS documents both service selection and custom server/key entry in its overview guide.
  5. Match the output to YouTube’s guidance. In OBS output and video settings, set RTMPS where supported, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, a supported codec, and the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate you selected from YouTube’s table. Ensure the audio output uses AAC or MP3 as applicable. Avoid choosing a bitrate that exceeds the stable upload capacity of the connection.
  6. Test before leaving it unattended. Start a private or otherwise suitable test broadcast, watch Live Control Room stream health, and confirm both moving video and audio. Let the media loop through a transition and check OBS’s reconnect behavior rather than assuming a successful first start proves continuous operation.
  7. Start and supervise the broadcast. Start streaming in OBS and confirm the incoming feed in Live Control Room. Plan who will notice a stopped process, lost connection, or silent source and how they will restore the stream.

FFmpeg: when the command-line route makes sense

FFmpeg may suit an operator who already knows how to construct, launch, log, and supervise a command-line media pipeline. That can be a practical workflow choice for a deliberately simple loop, but the available documentation here does not support a verified FFmpeg command, exact looping or reconnect flags, or claims about resource use and reliability. Those details depend on the FFmpeg build, operating system, input files, and setup.

If you choose FFmpeg, verify the syntax against documentation for your specific build and test the complete broadcast path—including loop behavior, audio continuity, connection loss, and restart—before relying on it for a continuous channel. Use YouTube’s same server URL, stream key, encoder settings, and Live Control Room health checks regardless of which encoder you select.

Plan for connection failures and unattended operation

A 24/7 broadcast depends on more than the encoder: the host must stay powered, the media must keep playing, and the connection must sustain the selected output. OBS lists automatic reconnect among its advanced settings, but reconnect is not a guarantee that every failure will recover or that a stream will never be interrupted. The same caution applies to any process you supervise yourself.

  • Test with the actual bhajan files or playlist, not just a still image or short silent clip.
  • Check that audio remains present and that the video source behaves correctly when a file ends or repeats.
  • Confirm the upload connection can sustain the chosen bitrate during the hours the channel will run.
  • Decide who will monitor alerts or stream health and what they will do if the encoder or connection stops.
  • Keep a secure copy of the stream key and a documented recovery procedure; do not publish the key in a command, screenshot, or shared log.

Understand YouTube’s archive limit

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single 24-hour session will produce one complete, reliable replay under that rule. If a saved replay matters, plan session lengths around YouTube’s published limit and confirm the resulting archive in Studio. The encoder guide also covers scheduled streams and setup details: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Or let it run in the cloud
