Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Usually, no—not if you mean changing the playlist of a prerecorded stream that is already airing. Restream says you must add, remove, or reorder videos before its playlist goes live; once it is playing, you can edit graphics and chat, but not the video entries. Playing a clip during a hosted live production is a separate workflow and may be possible through a live studio.
What “adding a video” can mean
There are two different operations that can sound like “add a video while live”:
- Change the automated loop’s queue: Insert a new file into the playlist that is already running, or remove or rearrange queued files.
- Play a clip during a hosted show: A host or producer shares a prerecorded video as part of a live production. This does not necessarily change the playlist managed by a loop service.
Whether you can do it depends on which workflow you mean.
Can you change a live Restream playlist?
No. Restream’s playlist guide says to add, remove, and arrange videos before the playlist goes live. During playback, the documented editable items are graphics and chat—not the playlist’s video entries.

Restream’s guide describes playlists with up to 40 video entries and a maximum duration of 24 hours. It also says playlists require a paid Upload & Stream add-on tier. Those are vendor-listed details and can change, so check Restream’s current guide and plan information before subscribing.
What to do if the stream has not started
- Open the playlist in Restream and make the needed additions, removals, or ordering changes before it goes live.
- Review the full sequence and timing, then preview or schedule it.
- Start the playlist only after you are satisfied with its contents; the guide does not document a way to hot-add a video after playback begins.
What to do if it is already airing
Plan on the existing playlist continuing without a newly inserted entry. If the added material must appear immediately, use a separate live-production workflow that lets a host share a video, or stop and prepare a revised playlist for a later start. The available documentation does not establish that stopping and restarting preserves the same broadcast or its audience, so check the service’s current controls before interrupting an active event.

Can a live host play a prerecorded video?
Yes, in a different kind of workflow. StreamYard documents sharing long-form video in a live stream or event and queuing several videos to play like a playlist. That is a way to present prerecorded segments during a hosted production; it is not evidence that you can edit an already-airing Restream playlist.
The distinction matters operationally: a hosted show uses its live-production controls to present a clip, while a scheduled prerecorded playlist runs as a sequence assembled in advance. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes transmission to a bound broadcast and broadcast-state behavior tied to starting and stopping transmission. It does not document a general command for inserting items into a vendor’s running playlist.

How to choose the right workflow
Before committing to a service, verify the capability that matters for your show rather than relying on the word “playlist.” Ask:
- Can you change the actual queued video files after playback starts, or can you only play clips through a live studio?
- Does the workflow require a host or encoder to stay connected, or can it run as a scheduled prerecorded event?
- What upload and storage limits, playlist duration, resolution, and plan restrictions apply?
- How will you handle rights for the live broadcast and any replay or archive?
Restream’s cited playlist guide answers the queue-editing question: its video entries are fixed once the playlist is live. The cited StreamYard help article describes sharing and queuing videos in a hosted show. These are different workflows, not a complete feature-by-feature comparison of current services.

Check copyright before playing or looping a video
YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content, including other live broadcasts. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; the stream can be interrupted or terminated if the content remains or a relevant strike applies. For licensed third-party content, YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone does not guarantee that an interruption will not occur.
Confirm that your rights cover both the live use and any archived replay. If you have permission to use the material but it is claimed during a broadcast, contact the rights holder about allowlisting the channel. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
