For a 24/7 YouTube bhajan stream on a limited connection, start with 720p at 30 fps, H.264 video at 3,000 kbps, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC audio. Use RTMPS when your encoder supports it. YouTube lists 3 Mbps as the minimum H.264 bitrate for 720p, but a 3 Mbps stream needs more than 3 Mbps of stable upload capacity: YouTube recommends 20% headroom, which means at least 3.75 Mbps of otherwise available upload for this starting setting.
That is a configuration to test, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Check the actual stream in YouTube Studio, account for other uploads on your network, and have a plan for restarting after power, computer, or connection failures.
Recommended 720p settings for a low-bandwidth bhajan stream
| Setting | Starting value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280 × 720 at 30 fps | 720p H.264 guidance allows 30 or 60 fps; 30 fps is the lower-frame-rate starting point for a constrained connection. |
| Video codec | H.264 | Use the codec covered by YouTube’s encoder bitrate guidance. |
| Video bitrate | 3,000 kbps | YouTube lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for both 720p30 and 720p60 H.264. Begin at the minimum if upload capacity is limited, then test. |
| Rate control | CBR | Constant bitrate makes it easier to plan the connection capacity needed by the encoder. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | Set the encoder’s keyframe interval to two seconds. |
| Audio | AAC; 128 kbps recommended for stereo | YouTube lists AAC or MP3 as supported for RTMP/RTMPS; its recommended stereo audio bitrate is 128 kbps. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS, where supported | YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data sent to its servers. |
These are encoder settings, not a special official preset for 24/7 devotional streams. A mostly static visual does not mean you can assume the encoder will use less bandwidth than its configured bitrate. Use footage and audio similar to the real program when testing. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Calculate the upload speed you need
YouTube advises that stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. For a 3 Mbps video stream, the minimum implied capacity is 3 ÷ 0.8 = 3.75 Mbps of stable upload that is otherwise available to the stream. Audio and network overhead also consume capacity, so treat 3.75 Mbps as a planning floor, not a guarantee. YouTube’s wording is direct: “The total bitrate of your streams cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.” Read its streaming tips.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Check upload capacity at the location and time you will stream, not only on a different network or at a quiet hour.
- Reserve extra capacity if phones, computers, cloud backups, or security cameras upload at the same time.
- If you run a backup encoder, budget for the primary and backup bitrates together, then add YouTube’s 20% margin. Test failover before relying on it.
- A speed-test result is only a snapshot. Run a sustained test using the intended settings and watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators.
If the stream is unstable at the minimum 720p bitrate, reduce the frame rate first if you have not already done so; if problems continue, lower the resolution and test again rather than expecting a nominal speed-test figure to hold continuously.
Prepare the YouTube channel and stream
- Confirm live access. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Create or schedule the encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. The YouTube Live API describes a stream configuration as including ingestion type, stream URLs, resolution, and frame rate; see LiveStreams | YouTube Live Streaming API.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not show it on screen, post it publicly, or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update your encoder.
- Set the encoder. Choose 1280 × 720, 30 fps, H.264, CBR, 3,000 kbps video, a two-second keyframe interval, AAC audio, and RTMPS if available. Set audio levels carefully and confirm the correct input is selected.
- Start a test transmission. Send the same type of bhajan audio and visual you intend to use. Check the YouTube preview, stream-health messages, audio, and video before treating the setup as ready.
- Allow time to verify. YouTube recommends setting up at least two hours before an event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes ahead. For a continuous channel, use that lead time to check the setup before the planned start, then keep monitoring it after it goes live.
Plan the loop and recovery for a continuous stream
A 24/7 broadcast needs more than a working encoder profile: decide how the recording or playlist will repeat, and how you will restore the broadcast after a computer restart, power interruption, or network failure. The YouTube guidance cited here emphasizes reliable connectivity and monitoring; it does not promise that an encoder will restart automatically or that a stream will remain uninterrupted.

- Test the complete loop, including transitions, gaps, and audio continuity, before leaving the stream unattended.
- Know how to restart the encoder and confirm that it is sending to the correct stream key and destination.
- If you use a backup encoder, plan its bitrate within the same upload budget and test the switch-over rather than assuming it will work.
- Monitor YouTube’s preview and health notices, especially after changing bitrate, network equipment, or the playlist.
Protect the bhajan recordings and performances
Confirm that you have broadcast rights for each recording and performance. A devotional subject does not automatically make a recording free to rebroadcast: rights may involve the performers, record label, publisher, and other royalty participants. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions say providers must have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate it if identified content remains. Even when you hold a licence, a rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the stream not to be interrupted. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and resolve permissions before going live.

Keep an archive if you need the full broadcast
YouTube says a live stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Since a 24/7 stream exceeds that guidance, keep a separate local recording if retaining the complete broadcast matters. YouTube’s explanation is in Archive live streams.
Estimate storage from the recording bitrate and the number of hours you want to retain, and verify that the recording file is growing while the stream runs. An external hard drive or SSD can provide local storage, but it does not protect against every device, power, or network failure.

Troubleshoot common low-speed stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Stream health reports insufficient bandwidth or the picture buffers | Available upload is below the configured stream demand, varies over time, or is shared by other uploads. | Check available upload during the stream; pause competing uploads; confirm CBR and the selected bitrate. If instability continues, lower the resolution and test again. |
| Stream is unstable despite a speed test above 3 Mbps | The 3 Mbps encoder minimum is not the same as the connection requirement; YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom, and a speed test may not represent sustained conditions. | For 3 Mbps video, reserve at least 3.75 Mbps of otherwise available upload as the headroom-based floor, plus capacity for audio and overhead. Repeat a sustained test. |
| Backup stream fails or crowds out the primary | The two encoders are consuming upload simultaneously or the margin was calculated for only one stream. | Budget for primary plus backup bitrate, then add 20% headroom. Test failover in advance. |
| Viewers hear silence, distortion, or the wrong audio | Incorrect audio input, muted source, poor level, or encoding configuration. | Check the encoder’s selected input and levels, then verify audio in YouTube’s preview before leaving the stream running. |
| Live stream is interrupted after music is detected | The recording or performance may be claimed, or the channel may not be allowlisted even if you have a licence. | Resolve rights with the relevant owners and check YouTube’s copyright guidance and Content ID allowlisting process. |
| There is no complete YouTube archive of the 24/7 broadcast | Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an automatic archive. | Record locally and verify the recording is growing; use storage sized for the desired retention period. |
| Stream stops after the computer, power, or network fails | The encoder or connection stopped, and automatic restart or recovery was not configured. | Restore the computer and network, restart the encoder, verify the stream key and preview, and plan a tested recovery procedure for future interruptions. |
