A YouTube playlist organizes videos; it does not automatically turn them into a continuous livestream or switch them on a daily schedule.
How the pieces fit together
Think of the setup as a content library plus a delivery system. The library holds your devotional videos or audio-video recordings in clearly named playlists. The delivery system sends the selected playlist to YouTube as a live feed.
YouTube distinguishes the liveStream, which carries the video feed, from the liveBroadcast, the viewer-facing event associated with that feed. Its API documentation describes a 24/7 pattern in which a continuing feed can be associated with broadcasts; a broadcast with no scheduled end time can continue indefinitely. Plan the devotional schedule and content
Choose what will play
Decide whether the stream will use pre-recorded devotional videos, live contributions, or a mix. Check that your delivery method supports the format you intend: Restream says its scheduled playlist feature cannot mix live and pre-recorded content in the same playlist. Make a playlist for each day
- In YouTube Studio, create a playlist for each day or recurring theme, such as “Monday Morning Prayer,” “Tuesday Scripture Reflection,” or “Sunday Worship.”
- Use a consistent naming pattern and add descriptions that tell viewers what the playlist contains.
- Arrange videos in the intended order, and maintain a separate master schedule showing which playlist should be on air and when.
- Review the videos and their rights before assigning them to a public stream.
YouTube Studio supports creating and managing playlists and arranging videos. Playlists are useful for organizing the library and guiding viewers, but they do not themselves schedule or deliver a live stream. Create and manage playlists

Use an encoder when you want hands-on control
In a self-managed build, configure the encoder to send the day’s selected content to the YouTube liveStream associated with the viewer-facing broadcast. You must provide the content rotation: YouTube’s API model does not make a standard playlist switch automatically at midnight or on another timetable. Exact hardware and encoder settings depend on the build; the cited YouTube documentation does not establish one required encoder model.

Use a hosted scheduler when you want less local operation
A hosted service can deliver uploaded, pre-recorded content without requiring a local encoder to run continuously. Before committing, check its plan, maximum duration, file and storage limits, playlist behavior, transition gaps, and whether it can meet your archive needs. Vendor capabilities and plan limits can change.
Build and test the daily handoff
- Prepare the library: finish each day’s playlist and check the ordering, titles, and playback of every file.
- Configure delivery: select the relevant playlist in your encoder or hosted scheduler and associate the delivery with the YouTube broadcast workflow.
- Schedule the change: specify when the next day’s content should begin in the scheduler, or make the change in your encoder workflow. Do not assume YouTube Studio playlists provide this timing.
- Test a complete transition: observe the end of one block and the start of the next. Check for a gap, black screen, unintended stream restart, or the wrong playlist. Repeat the test after changing files or schedule settings.
- Decide what viewers should be able to do: choose whether to enable DVR controls and whether an archive is needed. YouTube exposes archive and DVR settings, but the result depends on broadcast configuration.
Plan for archives, DVR, and long broadcasts
Google’s production guidance says streams up to 12 hours automatically become video on demand (VOD). For a stream longer than 12 hours, it advises recording the stream separately and manually uploading that recording if you want an archive. Plan recording, retention, and rights accordingly; do not rely on an uninterrupted stream alone to preserve every long-form archive. YouTube live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions

Check the broadcast’s archive and DVR settings before launch. If each daily playlist is a separate broadcast, plan its archive and viewer experience separately; if the stream is intended to continue through daily content changes, test the actual handoff and verify what viewers can rewind or watch afterward.

A license for congregational singing or lyric display does not automatically authorize a 24/7 recorded music stream. Google advises securing clearances for livestreaming, rebroadcast, and on-demand audio or video, and checking whether performance rights cover live use, archive use, or both. Confirm rights for each song and recording, in the relevant territory, before publishing.

CCLI’s US information says its Streaming License covers authorized worship music performed live during online services, while Streaming Plus extends coverage to authorized master recordings and multitracks. CCLI also says an archive may be covered while the license remains active, but video content usually needs permission from the relevant copyright owners. Its US program summary says to validate each song or recording against the covered catalogs and that the streaming license does not grant song monetization or revenue-sharing rights. These are territory- and agreement-specific terms, not a universal clearance for every devotional stream. Verify the exact catalog, recordings, video, archive period, and monetization arrangement with the rights provider. Troubleshoot common problems
