For a 24/7 Gurbani stream meant mainly for continuous listening, choose Normal latency in YouTube Studio. YouTube recommends it for streams without planned audience interaction: it supports all resolutions and live features and gives viewers the lowest buffering risk. Use Low or Ultra-low only if responding to chat in near real time matters more than playback stability or 4K support.
Choose a latency mode for how viewers use the stream
Latency is the delay between the encoder sending video and a viewer seeing it. Lower latency reduces the player’s read-ahead buffer, so viewers can be more affected by changes in the connection between the encoder and YouTube. Network congestion can add delay even when average upload speed looks adequate. YouTube’s descriptions are typical, not guarantees for every viewer. YouTube Help: live streaming latency

The less-than-10-second and less-than-5-second figures are YouTube Help’s typical descriptions, not guaranteed delays. YouTube recommends Normal when you do not plan to interact with the audience. A stream being 24/7 does not by itself make lower latency useful; the deciding factor is whether real-time interaction is part of the program.
Set latency in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go live.
- Enter the stream details, then open Stream or Manage from the right-side menu.
- Open Stream Settings.
- Under Stream latency, choose Normal latency for a listening-first Gurbani stream. Choose Low or Ultra-low only if the interaction trade-off suits the program.
YouTube documents this selectable setting for encoder and mobile streams. Webcam and mobile streams configured for interactivity do not let you select latency this way. Studio labels and layout can change, so confirm the available control in the current Live Control Room before the broadcast. YouTube Help: latency settings

Check the encoder and connection before going live
Use a supported encoder configuration
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube’s published guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; constant bitrate (CBR); frame rates up to 60 fps; and a recommended keyframe interval of 2 seconds, not exceeding 4 seconds. Confirm that the encoder you use supports the chosen codec and settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. YouTube Help: encoder settings
Allow upload headroom
YouTube recommends having upload bandwidth at least 20% above the stream’s total bitrate. Check upload capacity, not download speed alone, and use a reliable connection: interruptions can break the stream. Test the real program and monitor stream health
Before going live, test with audio and motion similar to the actual program, then watch YouTube’s stream-health messages during the event. For Gurbani, make the test representative of the actual audio path and any still image, transitions, or overlays you plan to use. This is especially useful for catching audio-path problems that a video-only check would miss. YouTube Help: encoder settings and testing
Know when HLS changes the choice
If your workflow uses HLS, YouTube says Ultra-low latency is turned off. HLS has higher latency because it sends video in segments, so it is not the protocol to choose when pursuing ultra-low latency. YouTube’s HLS requirements include TS segments from 1 to 4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than 5 outstanding segments, among other protocol requirements. YouTube Help: HLS ingestion

Do you need a dedicated encoder?
No particular physical encoder is required by the latency recommendation. YouTube’s encoder list includes the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder designed to stream directly to YouTube Live; that establishes it as a compatible option, not as the best or most cost-effective choice for this channel.
