You can manage a 24/7 bhajan stream from a phone by running OBS Studio on a remote computer and connecting a compatible phone app to OBS WebSocket. The phone is a control surface; the computer still encodes and sends the stream to YouTube. OBS documents this phone-control setup on the same local network, with WebSocket authentication enabled. How the phone-and-OBS arrangement works
OBS must remain running on the computer that encodes and sends the broadcast. A phone can control OBS through OBS WebSocket—for example, to start or stop the stream or change scenes—while YouTube receives the encoded stream from the computer. This does not make the phone the encoder or remove the need for the OBS host and its internet connection to stay available.
OBS WebSocket is included with OBS Studio 28 and later. OBS documents phone or tablet remote control when both devices are on the same local network. It recommends protecting WebSocket access with a password. The OBS documentation reviewed does not establish a safe, supported way to connect a phone and OBS host across different networks, so do not expose the WebSocket port to the public internet as a shortcut.
Set up the YouTube stream and OBS host
- Check YouTube live-stream eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. Enable live streaming before scheduling the broadcast.
- Create or select the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Use YouTube’s encoder workflow to obtain the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select the appropriate YouTube service or custom configuration, and enter the connection details as required by the selected service setup. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel.
- Prepare the bhajan media and scenes in OBS. Add the intended audio and visual sources, then test that sound is audible and the picture is correct before going live. Use material you are authorized to broadcast; devotional subject matter by itself does not establish permission.
- Enable and secure OBS WebSocket. In OBS Studio, open Tools > WebSocket Server Settings, enable the server, and require authentication with a strong password. Keep the password private, just like the stream key.
- Connect the phone on the same local network. Install a compatible OBS WebSocket client, such as Touch Portal or OBS Blade, and enter the OBS host’s local address and WebSocket port as shown in OBS settings, along with the password. OBS lists these clients as examples; confirm that your chosen client supports the controls you need.
- Test control before relying on it. Confirm the phone can perform the actions you intend to use, such as starting or stopping the stream or changing scenes. Test the control connection while OBS is not live, then verify the actual YouTube output before leaving the setup unattended.
Keep the stream observable and recoverable
Monitor the encoder and YouTube output
Watch OBS and YouTube Studio for stream health, audio/video quality, bitrate, dropped frames, and intermittent disconnections. OBS associates dropped frames and disconnections with an unstable connection to the ingest server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. If these appear, check the host’s connection and reduce the output bitrate if the available upload capacity cannot reliably sustain it.

If you record locally, verify that the archive file is growing during the broadcast and that the computer has enough free storage. YouTube recommends monitoring quality and checking local archive files. A phone remote is useful for control, but it does not replace monitoring the actual stream or the computer running OBS.
Plan around YouTube’s archive and DVR limit
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If a replay matters, keep a local recording and consider dividing the broadcast into sessions shorter than 12 hours; neither an uninterrupted 24-hour session nor its complete YouTube replay is guaranteed by these archive rules.

Secure control and plan for failures
- Keep OBS WebSocket authentication enabled and share its password only with trusted operators.
- Keep the YouTube stream key confidential; do not place it in public messages, screenshots, or an unsecured control panel.
- Keep the OBS host, its network connection, and local recording storage available for as long as the stream is meant to run.
- Check YouTube Studio and OBS after launch and periodically during operation. The sources do not establish a universal schedule or guarantee uninterrupted operation.
Use only bhajan content you have permission to stream
Confirm rights for the actual composition, arrangement, sound recording, and performance—not only the devotional song title. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility for necessary rights, including music licensing rights, on the provider. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party matches, which may interrupt or terminate a broadcast.
Even where you have a license, YouTube warns that a third-party licensed live stream can still be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Resolve permissions and any required allowlisting with the relevant rights holders before relying on a recording for continuous use.
