For a live YouTube podcast stream, open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, select the active broadcast, and edit its settings. Save the change, then check the stream’s Studio details or public watch page to confirm the new title and description appear. These instructions are for YouTube; other platforms have their own controls.
Change the metadata on a live YouTube broadcast
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Go Live to reach the Live Control Room.
- Select the active broadcast—not an unrelated scheduled stream or an encoder connection.
- Open the stream settings and choose the edit control for the broadcast’s title and description. YouTube’s help describes editing metadata from the stream settings page; the exact label or placement can change as Studio’s interface changes.
- Update the title and description, save, then verify the result in the stream’s Studio details or on its public watch page.
YouTube documents editing metadata for encoder and mobile livestreams through Studio. If you cannot find the edit control, confirm that you selected the active broadcast and look in its stream settings rather than the encoder connection settings.
Make sure you are editing the broadcast, not the encoder feed
YouTube treats the viewer-facing broadcast and the incoming encoder feed as distinct resources. Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API documentation says the broadcast represents the video viewers see, and that its title, description, category, privacy status, and other video metadata can be updated at any time. The separate live-stream resource describes the feed sent by the encoder; its title and description are not visible to YouTube users. In practice, changing encoder connection details is not the way to change the public title or description.
If you created the show with StreamYard
StreamYard’s documented creation workflow is to start from Home, create a live stream, choose a studio and destinations, and enter the title and description. Its guide also describes using Customize to set different metadata for individual destinations. This is setup guidance; it does not establish that a mid-broadcast edit in StreamYard will update every destination.

For a show that is already live, use the destination’s own dashboard if StreamYard does not offer an edit control. Confirm the title and description separately on each platform’s live page. A scheduled post is not the same as a live show: StreamYard says the host still has to enter the studio and click Go Live at showtime.
Why a change may not appear
- You edited the wrong item: Return to the Live Control Room and select the active broadcast, not its encoder feed or a different scheduled event.
- The edit did not save: Reopen the stream’s Studio details or refresh its public watch page and check whether the updated text appears.
- You are multistreaming: A change at one destination is not established to propagate to every other destination. Check and, if necessary, edit each service’s own live dashboard.
- The show is scheduled rather than live: Update the scheduled broadcast’s settings; a scheduled audience post does not itself start the stream.
- The interface label differs: YouTube’s control placement may change. Look in the selected stream’s settings, rather than assuming the control has a fixed label or location.
