To repeat a prerecorded piano lesson as a YouTube Live stream, send it through an encoder such as OBS Studio and enable the video source’s Loop option. In OBS, create a stream in YouTube Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and key into OBS, add the lesson as a Media Source, then test the preview and audio before going live. The loop repeats the file; it does not ensure that an unattended stream stays connected or that YouTube will archive a full 24-hour broadcast.

Before you set up the stream

Confirm your channel can livestream

YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time livestream access may take up to 24 hours to enable, so prepare the stream well before its planned start. See YouTube’s livestreaming requirements and its encoder setup guide.

Clear every part of the lesson

Check that you have the rights needed to stream the video, piano performance, sheet music shown on screen, backing tracks, and any other included material. YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for having necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content; a match can cause a warning, placeholder, interruption, or termination. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel in Content ID for the stream to proceed without a match-related interruption. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Choose a file or a playlist

For one continuous lesson, use an OBS Media Source. OBS documents local video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. To rotate several files, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist; VLC must be installed for that source type to appear. The OBS Media Sources guide explains both options.

Set up OBS and YouTube Live Control Room

  1. Create or select a YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or select one you have already set up. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the encoder settings.
  2. Enter the connection details in OBS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube if available, and enter the copied stream key. If the screen asks for a server or stream URL, use the URL from Live Control Room. Labels and available connection options can vary by OBS version; use the values YouTube provides for the selected stream.
  3. Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or show it in a recording. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room; see YouTube’s live stream settings help.
  4. Add your lesson video. In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene, choose the local lesson file, and turn on Loop. For a playlist, add a VLC Video source, select the playlist files, and turn on Loop Playlist.
  5. Check the scene and audio. Make sure the video fits the canvas, the lesson is audible in the OBS mixer, and the source is not muted. Watch the OBS preview and listen for clipping, silence, or unwanted audio before sending the feed.

Choose encoder settings and test the full path

YouTube’s general encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), supports H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Resolution and bitrate depend on the video and the upload connection; choose settings from YouTube’s current encoder settings guide and test using the actual connection you intend to use. Do not assume that a setting is suitable just because OBS accepts it.

  1. Start a test stream before the public broadcast, ideally using representative video motion and piano audio.
  2. Check the preview in Live Control Room and confirm that the public watch page is available on your channel and on mobile.
  3. Listen to the stream itself, not only the local OBS monitor, and check that the piano remains audible and undistorted.
  4. During the broadcast, monitor YouTube’s stream health and messages as well as the encoder connection. YouTube’s livestream tips and encoder guidance cover testing and quality checks.

Keep a 24/7 stream running and plan for recovery

With OBS, the computer, OBS itself, and the network connection all remain part of the broadcast path. A loop only restarts the media file after playback completes. It does not recover a disconnected encoder, a failed computer, or a lost connection. For a do-it-yourself 24/7 stream, keep the computer on, prevent sleep or shutdown during the broadcast, use a stable upload connection, and check the stream periodically for video progress, audible piano, encoder connection, and a working public watch page. YouTube’s general monitoring advice is a useful baseline; it is not a guarantee that a long broadcast will remain uninterrupted.

Will YouTube archive a 24-hour livestream?

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise a complete archive for one uninterrupted stream lasting 24 hours or more. If a complete replay matters, plan shorter archive segments or make a separate recording rather than relying on a single day-long stream. Details are in YouTube’s encoder guide.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want the YouTube stream to continue without leaving a computer or home connection running, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload the lesson, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It streams the uploaded file rather than a live camera feed.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
You cannot start a YouTube livestream The channel is not verified, has a recent livestreaming restriction, or first-time access is still being enabled. Check channel eligibility and allow up to 24 hours for first-time access. Resolve any restriction before the planned broadcast.
OBS does not connect to YouTube The stream URL or key is missing, incorrect, or no longer valid. Compare OBS’s stream settings with the values in Live Control Room. Reset a compromised key there and update OBS.
The lesson plays once and stops Loop is not enabled on the Media Source, or Loop Playlist is off for the VLC source. Open the source properties and turn on the matching loop option. Confirm the selected file or playlist is the one used in the scene.
The video plays but the piano is silent or distorted The source may be muted, absent from the active scene, or too loud. Check the OBS audio mixer and listen to the YouTube preview. Adjust levels and test again before a long broadcast.
The stream stops after starting successfully The computer, encoder, or network may have stopped sending the feed. Check OBS connection status and YouTube stream health. Restore the encoder or connection and verify the public watch page before leaving the stream unattended.
YouTube interrupts the stream or shows a warning Automated matching may have detected third-party content, or a rights issue may have been reported. Review the flagged material and confirm you have the needed rights. For licensed third-party content, ask the rights owner whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID.
