To loop a recorded Hindi class into a YouTube Live feed, run FFmpeg on a computer or server that can stay on, use -stream_loop -1 before the input file, and send the output to the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. The loop repeats the recording; it does not guarantee uninterrupted service. You also need a stable upload connection, a recovery plan, and a decision about how to handle replays.

What you need before you start

  • A computer or server that can remain on, with enough processing capacity for the chosen encoding and sustained upload bandwidth for your stream.
  • A current FFmpeg build from a trusted distribution source. The commands below assume a shell such as Bash; adapt line continuations if using another shell.
  • A recorded class file whose video and audio streams you have checked with ffprobe.
  • A YouTube encoder stream, its stream URL, and its stream key.
  • Permission to stream all people and material in the recording, including any music or third-party content.

Hindi does not require special FFmpeg streaming settings. Choose settings based on the file’s codecs, resolution, frame rate, audio, and your upload connection. If the recording includes Devanagari titles or overlays, check that the fonts and rendering pipeline display them correctly; YouTube’s encoder guidance does not prescribe a Hindi-specific workflow.

Inspect the recording

Use ffprobe to see which streams and formats are present:

ffprobe -hide_banner -i "class.mp4"

Confirm that the file has the intended video and audio streams, and note their codec, resolution, and frame rate. The example command below encodes H.264 video and AAC audio; it is only a starting point for an MP4 with usable video and an audio stream.

Create a YouTube encoder stream and protect its key

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or select an encoder stream and copy its stream URL and stream key. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions at Set up your encoder for live streaming.
  2. Treat the key like a password. Do not put it in a public repository, screenshot, or shared log. If it is exposed, use Live Control Room to reset it.
  3. Use the exact URL and key shown for your stream as the FFmpeg destination. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension to RTMP, when the encoder and endpoint support it. For current endpoint details, see YouTube’s encoder settings.

Choose the output settings

YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a keyframe interval of two seconds, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. The -g value is a number of frames, so it depends on frame rate: -g 60 is two seconds at 30 fps, not a universal setting. Set bitrate for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually plan to send; YouTube’s current H.264 examples include:

Output YouTube H.264 recommended bitrate
720p at 30 fps 4 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 14 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps

These are specific H.264 rows, not bitrate recommendations for every codec or frame rate. Check the full, current YouTube encoder settings table for the planned output. Leave headroom on your sustained upstream connection rather than matching its theoretical maximum.

YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. Its guidance recommends 44.1 kHz stereo audio and 128 kbps for stereo audio. The example below uses 30 fps, 4.5 Mbps video, and AAC at 128 kbps; change those values to match the selected output and applicable YouTube guidance. The sample’s 4.5 Mbps is illustrative, not the listed 720p30 H.264 recommendation.

Run FFmpeg and loop the class file

Replace the destination with the exact ingest URL and key from YouTube Studio. Prefer the RTMPS endpoint where supported:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "class.mp4"
  -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
  -r 30 -g 60 -b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
  -f flv "rtmp://YOUR_SERVER_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"

-stream_loop -1 tells FFmpeg to repeat the input indefinitely; place it before the -i it applies to. -re reads the file at its intended rate rather than sending it as fast as possible. The H.264 and AAC options encode the streams for the output, while -f flv selects the container used for this RTMP-style output. The sample destination is a placeholder, not a real YouTube URL.

If the source already has suitable codecs and timestamps, stream-copying may reduce the computer’s encoding workload. However, looping can reveal timestamp or codec problems. Validate any copy-based command in a private or unlisted test before relying on it. If the file has no audio stream, do not assume a silent or audio-less feed will behave as intended: add a deliberate audio stream and confirm the result in Live Control Room.

Start, check, and monitor the broadcast

  1. Run FFmpeg and check its output for connection errors, encoding problems, or repeated failures.
  2. Open Live Control Room and wait for the incoming preview and stream health indicators. YouTube says, “Test your stream before you start your live stream.”
  3. Start the event in Live Control Room when required by the selected stream settings. Test unlisted first, including a representative section with lesson audio and movement.
  4. Check playback on the devices your viewers are likely to use. Watch for missing or distorted audio, frozen video, unexpected aspect ratio, and poor stream health.
  5. For a public, long-running stream, arrange monitoring, a recovery procedure, and local backups. A loop command alone does not supervise the machine, connection, or YouTube ingest.

YouTube recommends RTMP/RTMPS and CBR in its encoder settings. If the stream is unstable, also follow YouTube’s live streaming tips and test with the quality and connection you intend to use.

Keep the process running and plan for failures

-stream_loop -1 repeats media; it does not promise that FFmpeg will run forever or that YouTube will stay connected. A local computer depends on power, the operating system, and home or office internet. A hosted server can keep the process away from local power and connectivity, but still needs maintenance, monitoring, storage planning, and access controls. Compare options against the real requirements:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Consideration Local computer Hosted server
Connection Uses the local internet connection and its sustained upload capacity. Uses the host’s network; verify its sustained upload capacity and terms.
Power and availability Depends on local power and the computer staying on. Not dependent on your home computer, but host availability is not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
Maintenance You manage the operating system, FFmpeg, and restarts. You manage the server and FFmpeg, or use the controls the host provides.
Storage and backups Can keep source files and local recordings nearby; plan capacity and backups. Plan server storage, file transfers, and a separate backup if recordings matter.
Stream-key access Restrict who can access the machine and command history. Restrict server accounts, scripts, and logs; avoid exposing the key.

FFmpeg documents a FIFO output example using -attempt_recovery 1 and -recovery_wait_time 1 to retry after a temporary network failure. This can help with recovery but is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. A process supervisor can restart a crashed FFmpeg process, but test the restart behavior: reconnecting may create a new YouTube event depending on the stream configuration. Keep a local copy of important source files and, if the replay matters, a separate local recording.

Decide how to handle long streams and replays

YouTube says a live stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. A continuous feed being live does not ensure one complete replay. See YouTube’s current archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Approach Replay implications Operational trade-off
One continuous feed Beyond 12 hours, YouTube may not capture the stream; DVR may be limited or unavailable. Fewer event starts, but one long session does not assure a complete archive.
Shorter planned sessions Keeping sessions under YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold aligns with its automatic-archive guidance. Requires planning and managing separate sessions; consider viewer continuity and event setup.

If every class replay is important, schedule shorter sessions as appropriate and record locally as a backup. Keep the original recording files as well.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
YouTube does not show an incoming preview. Wrong ingest URL or key, connection failure, or incorrect destination formatting. Copy the current URL and key again from YouTube Studio, check FFmpeg’s connection output, and keep the key private.
The stream connects but health is poor or playback buffers. Bitrate exceeds sustained upload capacity, or the chosen output settings do not match the intended quality. Check the applicable YouTube bitrate row, reduce output quality if needed, leave upstream headroom, and test again.
Audio is missing. The input has no audio stream, or the wrong stream is being sent. Inspect the file with ffprobe, add a deliberate audio stream if necessary, and verify it in Live Control Room before publishing.
FFmpeg exits or disconnects after running for a while. Process crash, host or local network interruption, power loss, or another resource problem. Review FFmpeg output and machine or host logs, test recovery settings, and configure and test a process supervisor if using one.
The replay is missing or incomplete. The session exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive guidance, or archive/DVR behavior was limited. Plan shorter sessions under the documented threshold and maintain a separate local recording.
Hindi titles or overlays display incorrectly. Font availability or text-rendering settings in the file’s production pipeline. Check the original recording and fonts on the playback devices; the stream language itself does not call for special FFmpeg settings.
