If Edge Web Capture saves only what is on screen, choose Capture full page rather than Capture area. Press Ctrl+Shift+S or open Web Capture from Settings and more, select Capture full page, then review and save the result. If that option is missing or still captures only the viewport, try Edge DevTools’ full-size screenshot command.
Check that you selected full-page capture
Web Capture offers different capture modes. Capture area is for a selected region; it does not mean the entire document. To capture beyond the visible screen, open Web Capture from Edge’s Settings and more menu or press Ctrl+Shift+S, then choose Capture full page. Review the result and save it. Microsoft’s guide describes this workflow, but notes that functionality may change and regional availability can differ, so labels may not match every Edge build exactly: Microsoft’s Web Capture guide (January 2, 2024).
- If you see Capture full page, select it instead of Capture area.
- If the full-page option is absent, or the resulting image is still only the viewport, use the DevTools method below.
- If the page contains an embedded PDF, form, or dynamic content, neither method is guaranteed to capture it consistently; the reviewed Microsoft documentation does not establish uniform behavior for those cases.
Use DevTools to capture the full page
Edge DevTools has a separate command designed to include content outside the current viewport. Microsoft documents the following path in its Device Mode documentation:
- Open the page you want to capture and open Edge DevTools.
- Turn on the Device Toolbar.
- Open the Device Toolbar’s More options menu.
- Select Capture a full size screenshot.
- Open the saved screenshot and check that it includes the page content below the original viewport.
This is a developer-tools route rather than the ordinary Web Capture menu, but it is Microsoft’s documented alternative for capturing a full-size page.

Check what is actually scrolling
Notice whether the browser’s main page scrolls or whether only an inner panel, sidebar, or frame scrolls. A Microsoft Q&A discussion includes a user report that content scrolling inside a sidebar or frame may be involved when full-page capture fails. That report is a clue to investigate, not an authoritative confirmation of a universal Edge limitation: Microsoft Q&A.
- If the main document scrolls, try the documented DevTools full-size command.
- If only an embedded panel or frame scrolls, capture the content you need from within that view if possible, or check whether the site offers its own export or print function.
Why older Web Capture instructions may not help
A September 28, 2020 announcement from the Microsoft Edge Product Team described a historical selection workflow: “To do this, just hold down the selection tool and drag to the bottom of the page; the page will automatically start to scroll so that you can capture everything you need in one go.” That describes dragging the selection tool while the page scrolls; it is not the current documented instruction for full-page capture. Use Capture full page or the DevTools command instead. Microsoft Edge Product Team announcement.
