If it is still soft, try a Firefox Developer Tools screenshot with a device-pixel-ratio setting above 1. That can produce a larger, zoomed-in image, but it cannot restore detail missing from the page or its source images.
1. Confirm that you captured the full page
Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool offers separate options for the visible area and the entire document. Mozilla Support says you can open it by right-clicking an empty part of the page and selecting Take Screenshot, or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. Choose Save full page, then download the image. The controls may change in future Firefox releases. Mozilla Support: Take screenshots in Firefox.
- Open the page you want to capture.
- Open the screenshot tool using the menu or keyboard shortcut for your operating system.
- Select Save full page, not Save visible.
- Download the image and inspect its pixel dimensions in an image viewer or your operating system’s file details.
A screenshot that is merely the visible viewport may seem blurry when enlarged to represent a long page. Checking its dimensions and content helps distinguish an incomplete capture from genuinely soft detail.
2. Check whether the blur is in the capture or the page
Compare text with embedded photos, logos, and other graphics. If text is crisp but particular images are soft, the page’s source assets or how they are scaled may be responsible; this is a diagnostic clue, not a definitive Firefox diagnosis. If all content looks soft, test another capture method before concluding that the page itself is the problem.

Also judge legibility at the size you intend to use. A large image can look soft when heavily enlarged, while a smaller image may appear clear at its normal viewing size. More output pixels do not necessarily mean more underlying detail.
3. Try a higher device-pixel ratio in Developer Tools
Firefox Developer Tools can capture a full-page screenshot. Mozilla documents the --fullpage and --dpr screenshot command options; values above 1 for --dpr produce a zoomed-in image. Treat this as a pixel-density experiment, not a promise that every blur will be fixed. Firefox DevTools documentation: Screenshot command.

- Open Developer Tools for the page. If the screenshot button is not visible, open Developer Tools settings and enable it under Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Open the Web Console and use the screenshot command with
--fullpageand a--dprvalue greater than 1. For example, test:screenshot --fullpage --dpr 2. - Inspect the resulting image’s dimensions and compare text and graphics with the original at the same display size.
- If the result is still soft, try a different page or examine whether the softness is limited to specific page assets. Do not assume a higher DPR can recreate detail that was never present.
The exact command behavior and interface can vary by Firefox version. Mozilla’s documentation supports the full-page and DPR options, but does not guarantee a universal quality improvement.
4. If the page is incomplete or unusually long
A truncated, partly blank, or failed capture is a different problem from an image that is complete but soft. Test a shorter page. If that works, capture the long document in sections and combine the images if you need one file.

A Mozilla Support moderator’s 2019 answer attributed failures on very large full-page captures to a canvas data-volume limit. That is historical forum guidance, not a current published limit or a confirmed cause for ordinary blur. Mozilla has not established a universal maximum screenshot height in the sources cited here. 5. Troubleshoot a reproducible problem
- Only the visible area appears: repeat the capture and select Save full page.
- The whole image looks soft: compare the built-in screenshot with a Developer Tools capture using a
--dprvalue above 1, then check the output dimensions and legibility at the same viewing size. - Text is crisp but some images are not: investigate those page assets or their rendered scaling rather than assuming every part of Firefox’s capture is blurry.
- A very long page is cut off, blank, or fails: test a shorter page or capture sections; do not infer a specific page-height threshold.
When reporting a reproducible issue, record the Firefox version, operating system, capture method, image dimensions, and page URL if it is appropriate to share. The cited Mozilla guidance does not provide a definitive explanation for every blur complaint.
