If YouTube Live says “no data” while FFmpeg appears to play meditation audio, first check what FFmpeg is actually sending and read the full warning in YouTube Live Control Room. Hearing audio locally does not prove YouTube is receiving a valid stream, and “no data” is a health status—not a diagnosis of the fault.

What YouTube’s “no data” status means

YouTube’s Live Streaming API defines noData as a state in which its backend “do[es] not have any information about the stream’s health status.” It does not identify why that is happening in your particular broadcast. Read the complete status and any configuration warning in Live Control Room; another message may point to an issue such as an unsupported codec or insufficient video. Google’s status documentation describes the health states.

Because the FFmpeg command, input, output mapping, ingest endpoint and full YouTube warning are not specified here, no single cause can be confirmed. Work through these checks in order instead of changing settings at random.

Diagnose the stream step by step

  1. Read the full warning in YouTube Live Control Room

Open the active stream in YouTube Studio and note the full stream-health status and any configuration message, not just “no data.” Keep the message available as you check the encoder output. The health label alone does not establish whether the problem is the media, encoding, destination or protocol.

  2. Verify FFmpeg’s outgoing media, not just local playback

Inspect FFmpeg’s input-to-output stream mapping and log output to confirm that the outgoing stream contains the media you expect. Local playback confirms only that your local input can be heard; it does not confirm that FFmpeg is sending that audio to YouTube.

Also check whether the output includes video. YouTube’s published encoder settings describe a video stream with audio and specify supported video and audio codecs. Do not assume that an audio-only RTMP output is supported by those settings. If you intend to broadcast a video with meditation audio, confirm that both intended streams are present in FFmpeg’s output.

  3. Compare codecs and encoder timing with YouTube’s guidance

YouTube lists AAC or MP3 as supported audio codecs and H.264 among its supported video codecs. Its encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Check the settings on the output FFmpeg is actually producing, rather than relying on the input file’s properties. See YouTube’s encoder settings and live streaming recommendations.

  4. Match the destination URL to the selected ingest protocol

Compare the destination and protocol in FFmpeg with the ingest method and server endpoint shown in YouTube’s stream setup. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Google describes RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through an SSL connection and warns that a cleartext RTMP connection to a server expecting RTMPS may not return a sensible response. That is a possible mismatch to investigate, not proof that it caused your issue. Google’s ingestion protocol comparison explains protocol options and codec support.

It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
    • FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
    • SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.

Do not switch protocols blindly: confirm that the endpoint, configured ingest method and media codecs work together. Never post your stream key publicly or include it when asking for help.

  5. Test with representative audio and movement, then monitor health

YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream, then monitoring stream health and messages during the broadcast. Apply that guidance to a test of your meditation stream and check Live Control Room while it runs. A test that differs substantially from the intended output may not reveal the same problem.

Common symptoms and what to check

What you observe What to verify
You can hear the meditation audio locally, but YouTube reports no data Confirm FFmpeg’s outgoing mapping and logs show the intended audio reaching the output. Local playback alone does not verify the upload.
The stream has audio but no video Check whether the output includes the video you intend to send. YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies video and audio codecs; the available documentation does not establish audio-only RTMP as supported.
The output appears to contain media, but YouTube shows a configuration warning Read the full warning and compare the outgoing codecs and stream contents with YouTube’s published settings.
FFmpeg connects, but YouTube receives no usable stream Check the exact destination and whether it uses the ingest protocol configured in YouTube. In particular, verify RTMP versus RTMPS rather than treating a connection attempt as confirmation that the endpoint is correct.
The stream starts but its health is poor or inconsistent Review codec, CBR and keyframe settings, and run a representative test while monitoring YouTube’s health messages.

What to collect if the problem persists

A useful diagnosis needs evidence from both ends of the connection. Before asking for help, collect:

  • The exact FFmpeg command with the stream key removed or replaced with a placeholder.
  • FFmpeg’s input/output stream mapping and relevant error lines.
  • Whether the output includes video, audio, or both.
  • The ingest protocol selected in YouTube and the destination type used by FFmpeg—never the secret key itself.
  • The full YouTube Live Control Room health warning or status.

These details help distinguish a media-output problem from a codec, timing or ingest mismatch. Without them, the specific fault remains undetermined.
