For a 24/7 study-music stream, start by testing OBS at 1080p, 30 fps, H.264, CBR at 10 Mbps, a two-second keyframe interval, and stereo AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Use SDR Rec. 709. If your connection or encoder cannot sustain that reliably, test 720p30 at 6 Mbps instead. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming; India has no separate YouTube bitrate preset, so your own sustained upload capacity and stream health should determine the final choice.
Recommended OBS settings to test
YouTube publishes ingest targets, not one universal OBS preset. The figures below are a practical starting point for a static study visual and music, based on YouTube Help guidance accessed in 2026; the pages do not state a publication year. OBS encoder menus and available hardware options vary by operating system, installed version, and computer, so these are output targets rather than a claim about a specific OBS preset.
| Setting | Start here | When to adjust |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps | Test 1280 × 720 at 30 fps if the encoder is overloaded or the connection is unstable. With mostly static artwork, a higher frame rate may add little visible value; that is a practical judgment, not a YouTube requirement. |
| Video encoder | H.264 | YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1, but which is suitable depends on available encoder hardware and software. H.264 is the conservative starting choice. |
| Video bitrate | 10 Mbps for 1080p30 | For 720p30, test 6 Mbps. These are YouTube’s recommended ingest figures; confirm your sustained upload capacity and stream health. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube specifies CBR for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends two seconds and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. |
| Audio | AAC, stereo, 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps | Check the real music feed for clipping, silence, and consistent levels during a test. |
| Color | SDR, Rec. 709, 8-bit | Use HDR only if you have a specific production need and have confirmed the additional hardware, OBS-version, codec, and protocol requirements. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS, where supported | Keep the stream key private; it authorizes your encoder to send the feed. |
All listed ingest targets and stream-management recommendations are from YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance. YouTube advises creators to choose quality their connection can reliably sustain, test realistic audio and video, and monitor stream health rather than simply selecting the highest resolution.
Set up the YouTube stream before configuring OBS
- Enable live streaming early. In YouTube Studio, request live-stream access before your planned launch. For a first-time enablement, YouTube says activation may take at least 24 hours after the request. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Choose the stream details and audience settings that fit your channel and content. Copy the stream key into OBS only through the appropriate stream configuration fields; do not share it publicly.
- Protect the key. Treat it like a password. YouTube describes it as the credential that allows the encoder to send your feed. Reset it if you believe someone else has accessed it. Details are in YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
- Select RTMPS if the connection option offers it. Use the server and key shown in YouTube Studio. Do not paste the key into public chat, screenshots, or a public OBS configuration.
Configure OBS output and audio
In OBS, open Settings and locate the output, video, audio, and stream controls. Exact labels or encoder options can differ across OBS versions and operating systems, so match the targets below to the controls available in your installation rather than assuming one hardware encoder name applies to every computer.

Output and video
- Set the video output to 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps for the first test, or 1280 × 720 at 30 fps if needed.
- Choose H.264 and CBR for the video encoder output, then set the bitrate to 10 Mbps for 1080p30 or 6 Mbps for 720p30.
- Set the keyframe interval to two seconds. Do not exceed four seconds.
- Use SDR Rec. 709 at 8-bit unless your stream genuinely needs HDR and your full production chain supports it.
Audio
- Choose AAC stereo at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps for the stream audio.
- Play the actual music source while testing. Check that it is audible, not clipping, and does not unexpectedly fall silent when the computer is left in its intended operating state.
Latency and DVR
For a non-interactive study-music stream, normal latency is a sensible starting choice. YouTube warns that lower latency can increase playback buffering, while it matters less when viewers are not interacting with the stream in real time. Enable DVR if you want viewers to pause and resume or rewind; YouTube explains these options in its latency and DVR guidance.
Test the connection and encoder before going live
There is no official India-specific bitrate table for YouTube Live. A connection that works at one time or location may not sustain the same upload rate at another, particularly on a shared or variable connection. YouTube recommends running a speed test to check upload bitrate, but a speed test alone cannot prove that a long broadcast will remain stable.

- [Clear Output Voice] Cardioid condenser microphone for PC captures your voice properly, producing clear smooth and crisp sound. Great computer recording mic for gamers/streamers/youtubers focus on the main source and reduces background noise. The streaming microphone does the job well for broadcast ,OBS and teamspeak.
- Test your upload capacity. Check the sustained upload available on the exact internet connection and computer you plan to use. Leave room for variation rather than treating a brief peak as guaranteed capacity.
- Run a realistic private or unlisted test. Use the target resolution, bitrate, actual music, and visual. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream.
- Watch the stream-health indicators. Look for warnings, dropped frames, buffering, or encoder overload in YouTube Studio and OBS during the test and after launch.
- Adjust one variable at a time. If the stream is unstable, try 720p30 at 6 Mbps, then retest. If the encoder itself struggles, reducing output demands may help; if upload is the constraint, a lower bitrate is the relevant change.
- Repeat at the times you expect to broadcast. This helps reveal connection variation not apparent in a short test. It does not guarantee future uptime.
Keep a local 24/7 setup running safely
OBS settings alone cannot guarantee an unattended stream. A local setup depends on the computer remaining powered and awake, OBS continuing to encode, the network staying available, and YouTube accepting the feed. The exact restart, power-management, and recovery settings depend on your hardware and OBS installation.
- Prevent the computer from sleeping or applying scheduled shutdowns during the broadcast; verify behavior on your operating system and power plan.
- Test the full intended setup, including music playback, scenes, and any automated transitions, before leaving it unattended.
- A UPS for the computer and Wi-Fi router is a possible continuity aid for a local setup, but it cannot protect against an ISP or YouTube outage.
- Check the channel and stream health periodically. Do not assume a stream that started successfully will remain live indefinitely.
Copyright and channel-policy checks for study music
Technical settings do not grant rights to the music or artwork. Use audio and visuals you created, licensed for this use, or otherwise have permission to stream. A live broadcast can be interrupted or restricted if rights holders or YouTube systems identify material you are not authorized to use. Keep records of licenses and permissions and review YouTube’s current policies before launching.

Repeatedly streaming music or visuals does not by itself establish that a channel qualifies for monetization. YouTube reviews channel content under its monetization policies, including whether content is original and adds value; meeting technical requirements is separate from passing that review. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies and copyright guidance.
Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube reports unstable or poor stream health | Upload capacity, bitrate, or network variation | Run an upload test on the broadcast connection, then test 720p30 at 6 Mbps and check stream health again. |
| OBS shows encoder overload or the video stutters | Computer or encoder load | Reduce output demands and retest; confirm the selected encoder is supported by your system. |
| The stream is live but music is silent | Audio source, routing, or output configuration | Check OBS audio meters and monitoring with the actual music source; verify AAC stereo output and test before relaunching. |
| Audio distorts or clips | Input level too high | Lower the source level until peaks no longer clip, then listen to another realistic test. |
| OBS cannot connect to YouTube | Server selection, stream key, or connection | Confirm the current server and key in YouTube Studio, verify RTMPS where available, and reset the key if compromised. |
| First planned broadcast cannot be enabled | Live access is not yet active | Request enablement in advance; first-time activation may take at least 24 hours. |
| Viewers report buffering despite a stable encoder | Viewer playback conditions or latency choice | Check YouTube stream health and consider normal latency if you selected a lower-latency mode without needing real-time interaction. |
