You can schedule a YouTube live event in YouTube Studio and arrange videos in a YouTube playlist, but those are separate tasks. Streamlabs Desktop’s official quick-start guide explains scenes and sources; it does not establish a built-in way to schedule timed rotations between YouTube playlists. The right workflow depends on whether you want to repeat one playlist, switch between playlists on a timetable, or schedule upcoming live events.
First, decide what “playlist rotation” means
- Repeat one playlist: YouTube has a playlist loop control for playback. This repeats the playlist in YouTube’s player; it is not a scheduled switch between playlists or a Streamlabs automation.
- Switch among playlists at set times: This requires a timed change between content sources. The Streamlabs Desktop quick-start guide describes scenes and sources, but does not document scheduled playlist rotation. Check Streamlabs’ current documentation or app before relying on a specific in-app timer.
- Schedule a live event: YouTube Studio lets you schedule an encoder-based live stream. This creates an upcoming event; scheduling it does not itself rotate playlist content.
Prepare and order the YouTube playlist
- On a computer, open YouTube and create a playlist or edit the one you intend to use.
- Set the playlist’s visibility, add the videos, and arrange them in the desired order. YouTube’s playlist help explains the desktop controls: Create & manage playlists.
- If your goal is simply to repeat that playlist during playback, use YouTube’s playlist loop control as described in Loop videos or playlists on YouTube. Looping is a playback action, not a schedule for changing to another playlist.
Schedule the encoder-based live event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Choose Manage, then Schedule stream, and create a stream or reuse settings where appropriate. YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Configure the event and connect your encoder using the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Use the upcoming event’s URL to let viewers know when to return. YouTube documents stream settings and related event controls in Manage live stream settings.
Scheduling makes an upcoming live event available for promotion and reminders. It does not configure Streamlabs to switch content sources on a timetable.
Set up the scene and sources in Streamlabs Desktop
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and select or create a scene for the stream layout.
- Add the visual and audio sources needed for your intended broadcast. Streamlabs describes scenes as layouts and sources as the items viewers see or hear in its Quick Start Guide: Setting Up Streamlabs Desktop for Streaming.
- Confirm that the chosen source actually provides the video you want to broadcast. A YouTube playlist’s order and loop control belong to YouTube; the Streamlabs guide does not describe a control that schedules rotation across playlists.
- Before the scheduled event, verify the encoder is connected to the correct YouTube event and that the intended scene and sources are active.
What you can and cannot automate from these documented controls

Make the schedule useful to viewers
Choose a recurring cadence you can sustain, and tell viewers when the schedule changes. YouTube’s Upload schedule tips for live streams recommends consistency and communicating changes. Reusing stream settings can reduce repeated setup, but it does not schedule playlist rotation.
If you organize a genuine series of related videos, YouTube also has a separate series-playlist feature; see Series playlists. A series playlist should not be mistaken for a timed live-stream automation.

Troubleshooting
- The event is not visible as upcoming: Return to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and check that you created and scheduled the stream rather than only preparing an encoder configuration.
- The encoder is not connected to the intended event: Check that you are using that event’s stream URL and key, rather than details from another scheduled stream.
- The videos are out of order: Edit and reorder the playlist in YouTube; changing a Streamlabs scene does not change the playlist’s saved order.
- The playlist repeats, but does not move to another playlist: YouTube’s loop control repeats the current playlist. It is not a timed rotation scheduler.
- You cannot find a timed source-rotation control in Streamlabs: The cited Streamlabs setup guide does not document one. Verify the current app’s documented features before building a schedule around a specific automation.
- Viewers do not know about a changed time: Update the event or channel communication and share the new schedule; YouTube recommends telling viewers about schedule changes.
