Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can schedule a YouTube Live event in YouTube Studio, then use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer to feed a prepared sequence of local video files to that event. These are separate steps: scheduling creates the event, but it does not start FFmpeg or automatically take the broadcast live. At the event time, start the encoder, wait for its preview in Live Control Room, and click Go live.
1. Schedule the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then open Manage > Schedule stream.
- Choose whether to reuse previous settings or create a new scheduled event. Scheduling lets you promote the event, send reminders, and share its URL.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and note its server URL and stream key. You will enter these in FFmpeg’s output settings. Treat the key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your event. YouTube’s current scheduled-stream instructions are at YouTube Help.
The event and the encoder feed are distinct. YouTube’s workflow is to start the encoder at the scheduled time, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, and then click Go live.
2. Create an FFmpeg concat playlist
Make a plain-text file listing the media files in the order you want them to play. For example, save this as playlist.ffconcat:
ffconcat version 1.0
file 'part-01.mp4'
file 'part-02.mp4'
The ffconcat version 1.0 header must be the first line exactly for FFmpeg to recognize the format automatically. The paths are relative to the working directory in this example; you can also use paths appropriate to your system.

Paths, spaces, and safe mode
Quote file paths correctly, especially when they contain spaces or special characters. The concat demuxer’s safe option defaults to 1 and rejects unsafe paths or directives; absolute paths may be rejected under this default. Prefer a playlist using safe relative paths when practical. If you need absolute or otherwise unsafe paths, understand that changing the safe setting relaxes input-path restrictions—do not disable it casually, particularly for playlists you did not create. See FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation for path and option details.
3. Check whether the files can be concatenated directly
The concat demuxer reads the listed files consecutively and can avoid re-encoding when the files meet its requirements. FFmpeg states: “All files must have the same streams (same codecs, same time base, etc.).” Check that the files have matching stream arrangements and compatible codecs and time bases before relying on direct concatenation.

Duration metadata matters, too. The demuxer adjusts timestamps globally; if streams differ in length, that adjustment can produce gaps. Incorrect or missing duration information can also lead to artifacts. FFmpeg’s concat documentation describes using duration directives to override file durations when needed. Do not add guessed durations: use accurate values for the media.
Choose the concat method that fits the files
| Method | When it fits | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Concat demuxer | The files have matching streams and can be joined at the packet level. | Can avoid re-encoding, but mismatched streams or unreliable durations can cause failure, gaps, or artifacts. |
| Concat filter | The inputs need to be decoded and combined before encoding, such as when re-encoding is required. | Requires encoding the combined output. Follow FFmpeg’s filter requirements and configure the output for the streams you want. |
FFmpeg’s FAQ recommends the concat filter when re-encoding is needed; consult its concatenation guidance alongside the demuxer documentation.

4. Configure FFmpeg to send the playlist to YouTube
Use the scheduled event’s server URL and stream key in FFmpeg’s live output configuration. YouTube identifies those as encoder settings, but there is no single FFmpeg command that is reliable for every combination of input codecs, stream layouts, FFmpeg build, and current YouTube ingestion settings. Use the settings shown for your event and consult the encoder guidance in YouTube Help.
In particular, do not copy a command without checking what it does with your files. A direct concat-demuxer output and a concat-filter workflow have different input and encoding requirements. If looping the sequence, use the loop option supported by your targeted FFmpeg version and verify its placement for that command; playlist mechanics alone do not establish one universal looping command for a YouTube broadcast.

5. Rehearse, then start the scheduled broadcast
- Before the event, run the exact playlist and output setup you intend to use. Confirm that every file opens and plays in order, and that the feed reaches the scheduled event.
- At the scheduled time, start FFmpeg. Scheduling the event does not launch the encoder.
- Wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. When it appears and you are ready to broadcast, click Go live.
A rehearsal is practical protection against file incompatibilities, duration issues, path errors, or an incorrect server URL or stream key. FFmpeg behavior depends on the actual media and build; no generic example can establish that arbitrary files will work.

YouTube’s API distinguishes a liveBroadcast, the event viewers watch, from a liveStream, the settings and delivery resource used by the encoder. A channel can reuse one stream configuration for events at different times; the API documentation says only one event in that arrangement can be live at a time. Separate stream resources may suit shows that can overlap. A Studio-only workflow does not require API use. See YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.
