Start with 1280×720 at 30 fps in OBS, using a 4 Mbps H.264 video bitrate. Move to 1920×1080 at 30 fps and 10 Mbps only after a representative test shows that your JioFiber connection, computer, and YouTube stream health remain stable. Those bitrates are YouTube recommendations—not a guarantee that any particular JioFiber connection can sustain them around the clock.

Choose a resolution your connection can sustain

For a 24/7 stream, stable delivery matters more than selecting the highest available resolution. YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps and 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. At 60 fps, its recommendations are 6 Mbps for 720p and 12 Mbps for 1080p. These are video bitrate recommendations, not total network usage or measured speeds on your line. YouTube’s live encoder guidance also lists codec-specific ranges for AV1 and H.265/HEVC; do not apply H.264 figures to those codecs.

Output mode YouTube H.264 recommended video bitrate When to consider it
1280×720, 30 fps 4 Mbps A cautious starting point for testing a continuous stream.
1280×720, 60 fps 6 Mbps When smoother motion is useful and the connection and encoder can sustain the additional load.
1920×1080, 30 fps 10 Mbps After testing confirms stable upload and healthy YouTube ingestion.
1920×1080, 60 fps 12 Mbps When the content benefits from 60 fps and sustained upload and encoder capacity support it.

YouTube transcodes incoming live streams for viewers, so your encoder’s output resolution is not the only version viewers may receive. Choose your output based on the source material, sustained upload, computer capacity, and stream-health results.

Set the OBS output for YouTube

OBS labels and available controls can vary by version and output mode. OBS’s official YouTube streaming guide directs users to Output settings for stream output configuration. In YouTube Studio, prepare the stream through the Live Control Room workflow; YouTube normally detects the encoder’s resolution and frame rate. Custom stream key settings can provide manual resolution behavior.

  1. Prepare the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room workflow and configure the live stream. Copy the stream key from the stream settings and keep it private.
  2. Configure OBS for the test. Open Settings and the relevant Video and Output controls. Set the output resolution to 1280×720 and the frame rate to 30 fps for the initial test. If OBS offers separate canvas and output resolutions, make sure the streaming output is set to the intended resolution.
  3. Set the streaming encoder. In the streaming output controls, choose an encoder and codec supported by your setup and YouTube ingest. For H.264, set rate control to CBR, video bitrate to 4,000 Kbps for 720p30, and keyframe interval to 2 seconds. Use RTMPS where available; YouTube’s guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest for H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1.
  4. Connect OBS to YouTube. Select YouTube as the service in OBS and enter the stream key using the connection workflow shown by your OBS version. Do not publish or share the key. YouTube may detect the resolution and frame rate from the encoder; use custom stream key settings if you need manual resolution behavior.
  5. Run a representative test. Include motion and audio like the content you intend to stream. Watch OBS’s connection indicators and YouTube’s stream-health feedback over a meaningful period, including the times when household internet use is typical.
  6. Increase quality only after a stable test. If you want 1080p30, set the output to 1920×1080 and the H.264 video bitrate to 10,000 Kbps, keeping CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Test again before relying on that mode for continuous use.

OBS settings are only one part of the result. The computer must encode continuously without falling behind, and the network must sustain the outgoing bitrate. YouTube recommends testing with representative content and monitoring stream health.

Check what your JioFiber upload can sustain

Jio describes JioFiber as symmetric, meaning advertised upload speed equals download speed, and advertises speeds up to 1 Gbps on its service pages. Neither statement establishes the sustained upload available to your particular plan, location, Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection, household network, or long-running broadcast. Check Jio’s JioFiber service information, then measure upload from the actual streaming computer under representative conditions.

  • Test while the computer is connected the way it will be during the stream, preferably using the same network path and equipment.
  • Check at more than one time, including periods when other household devices are active. A brief speed-test result is not proof of continuous capacity.
  • Leave headroom rather than setting OBS to the full result of a speed test. Other network traffic and changes in connection conditions can affect delivery.
  • Compare the measured, sustained upload and available encoder capacity with the chosen video bitrate. If either is marginal, use a lower-load mode.

Jio’s plan FAQ describes plans as unlimited for home use but also says RJIL may discontinue data services for misuse, fraudulent, unauthorized, or commercial use. The FAQ does not establish how a particular continuous YouTube broadcast is classified. If your stream is commercial, check the terms for your specific plan and ask Jio about your intended use. See Jio’s JioFiber plan FAQ.

Choose between 720p30 and 1080p30

Use the same content and a representative test when comparing modes. A higher resolution is worthwhile only if it improves the viewing result without making the connection or encoder unstable.

  • Encoder: Can the computer encode the chosen resolution and frame rate continuously without rendering or encoding trouble?
  • Stream health: Does YouTube report stable ingestion during the test?
  • Visual result: Does 1080p make a meaningful difference for this content compared with 720p?

If any constraint fails, reduce bitrate first when diagnosing connection problems, then lower frame rate or resolution as needed. OBS likewise advises lowering video bitrate to troubleshoot connection issues and choosing a bitrate that fits both stable upload and the platform’s limits.

Troubleshoot instability before leaving a stream unattended

  • YouTube reports unstable ingestion or OBS has connection trouble: Lower the video bitrate, test again, and reduce frame rate or resolution if the issue continues. Check the connection from the streaming computer rather than relying on a plan’s advertised maximum.
  • The stream looks poor despite a stable connection: Confirm that OBS is outputting the intended resolution and frame rate and that the selected bitrate matches YouTube’s recommendation for the codec and mode. Do not use H.264 recommendations as AV1 or H.265 settings.
  • The computer cannot keep up: Reduce the encoding workload by lowering resolution or frame rate, then test again. A fast internet connection cannot compensate for an encoder that cannot produce frames reliably.
  • The stream key does not connect: Check that OBS is using the current key for the intended YouTube stream, and verify the Live Control Room setup. Treat the key like a password; replace it in YouTube if it has been exposed.
  • A short test is stable but a long broadcast is not: Retest for longer under representative household conditions. A single brief test cannot establish that upload, power, and encoding will remain stable continuously.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep uploaded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream without leaving OBS and a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera.
