If OBS is streaming but you cannot find YouTube’s stream-health readout, check the active event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. That is where YouTube displays platform-side Stream health and related errors; OBS’s own status is in View → Stats. The two screens report different things. First confirm YouTube is receiving the stream, then use the changing OBS counters to narrow down any local output problem. Official documentation does not identify loop playback by itself as a cause of missing health information.
Check YouTube’s health in the right place
- In YouTube Studio, open the current live event in Live Control Room.
- Look for Stream health and read any accompanying error message and instructions. YouTube says stream health and analytics are available there while you are streaming: See your live stream’s metrics.
- Make sure this is the event OBS is sending to. A different event, or an event that has not received data, will not tell you the health of the stream you intended to check.
A missing or unavailable health readout does not, by itself, establish that the loop has failed. YouTube’s API includes a noData health state for when its backend has no health information about a stream.
Check whether YouTube is receiving the stream
Do not treat OBS saying it is streaming as proof that YouTube has received the signal. OBS describes its output; YouTube reports what reaches its platform. The YouTube Live Streaming API distinguishes stream lifecycle status from health status: active means YouTube is receiving data, while inactive means it is not. It also defines created, ready, and error lifecycle states. Its health values include good (no warning-or-worse configuration issues), ok (no error-severity issues), bad (error-severity issues exist), and noData (the backend has no health information). These definitions are documented in YouTube’s LiveStreams API reference.
If YouTube is not receiving data, verify that the event you opened is the one OBS is configured to stream to, and check the event’s status and any displayed error. If YouTube is receiving data but health is unavailable or unclear, use the exact state and error message as evidence; do not infer a cause from the loop alone.

Use OBS Stats to identify the local issue
In OBS, open View → Stats. Watch which counter changes while the stream is running. OBS separates network-dropped frames from missed rendering frames and skipped encoding frames; they point to different stages, so do not lump them together as one “dropped frames” problem.
- Network dropped frames: OBS says dropped frames mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. This is a connection-to-ingest or capacity clue, not a YouTube health readout.
- Frames missed due to rendering lag: OBS reports this separately as a rendering category. It describes a local processing stage; the appropriate fix depends on the computer, OBS version, and configuration.
- Skipped frames due to encoding lag: This is a distinct encoding category. Check it separately from network drops and rendering lag.
The OBS Stats labels are also reflected in the project’s English interface strings. A counter that stays at zero does not show that YouTube’s platform-side health is good; it only means that particular OBS counter is not reporting a problem.

If network-dropped frames are increasing
OBS’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guidance recommends testing a different server, reducing the bitrate to suit stable upload capacity, and reviewing network settings. Make one change at a time and watch whether the counter stops rising. Lowering bitrate can improve stability when the connection cannot sustain the configured rate, but it reduces picture quality and does not fix the underlying network cause. OBS also offers dynamic bitrate, which can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up; OBS cautions that this does not resolve the root cause and may reduce quality.
Do not apply a specific encoder or rendering change merely because the loop is playing. If rendering-lag or encoding-lag counters rise, the right remedy depends on the actual OBS version, encoder, output setup, and log; the general documentation does not establish a universal fix for an unknown configuration.

When OBS looks clean but viewers report buffering
A clean OBS dropped-frame counter is not proof that every viewer receives smooth playback. Viewer buffering can depend on their devices, locations, and internet connections, and may occur even when OBS reports no dropped frames. See OBS’s Stream Buffering Troubleshooting guide. Keep viewer reports separate from the question of whether YouTube’s Live Control Room is showing stream health.

The official documentation explains where YouTube health is shown, what the API status values mean, and how OBS classifies its performance counters. It does not identify loop playback, by itself, as a reason health information disappears. To investigate a loop-specific cause, the useful details are the loop method, OBS version and output configuration, the exact event status or health error, and which OBS Stats counters change. Without those, attributing the missing readout to the loop would be speculation.
