Then test the entire playlist and connection before going public. OBS can repeat the media, but it cannot guarantee uninterrupted uptime: your computer, internet connection, and YouTube connection must keep working.
What you need before setting up OBS
- A computer capable of running OBS and staying powered on, awake, and connected to the internet throughout the broadcast.
- Bhajan audio and visuals you have the rights to stream.
- VLC installed if you want OBS’s multi-file VLC Video playlist source. OBS’s built-in Media Source can loop a single file.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- A sustained upload connection with comfortable headroom above your chosen stream bitrate.
A dedicated mini PC is an optional always-on host, not a requirement or a guarantee against interruptions. No particular mini PC specification is established here; check current OBS requirements, operating-system compatibility, and available encoding hardware before buying.
Prepare and loop the bhajan playlist
For multiple files
- Install VLC, then open OBS and add a VLC Video source to the scene that will go live.
- In the source properties, add the bhajan video or audio files to the playlist in the order you want them played.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a predictable sequence. Turn on Loop Playlist so playback returns to the beginning when the source runs out of files.
- Play through the sequence and check the transition from the last file back to the first, including audio levels and any gaps or abrupt changes.
OBS documents the VLC source’s playlist, shuffle, and loop controls in its media sources guide. The guide is dated January 11, 2022; if a control is missing, confirm VLC is installed and check the source properties in your current OBS version.
For one file
Add OBS’s built-in Media Source, select the file, and enable its separate Loop control. Use this for a single continuous video or audio file; it is not the documented multi-file playlist source.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming on the channel if you have not already. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a broadcast using an encoder. Set its title and privacy, and review the latency, DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop options for the broadcast. Their behavior depends on the selections you make.
- In OBS, choose YouTube as the service if it is available, or enter the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Prefer RTMPS when your encoder offers it, then start a private or unlisted test broadcast where appropriate and confirm YouTube receives the feed.
Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or expose it in a screenshot, and reset it in Live Control Room if it is compromised. See YouTube’s instructions for creating an encoder stream and managing live stream settings. Low latency is usually less useful for a non-interactive playlist, and YouTube cautions that lower latency can increase buffering.
Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
There is no single OBS bitrate preset that fits every bhajan stream. Choose output resolution and frame rate to suit the source artwork or video and the computer, then use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for that combination. Avoid copying a gaming preset without checking that it applies to your output.

- Use a resolution and frame rate the source genuinely supports; a static devotional image does not benefit from an unnecessarily demanding output.
- Choose an OBS encoder your computer supports reliably. The right hardware or software encoder depends on the system; no one codec or setting is established as best for every machine.
- Make sure sustained upload capacity comfortably exceeds the configured stream bitrate. Leave headroom for ordinary network variation rather than planning to use the entire connection.
- Watch OBS’s dropped-frame indicators and YouTube’s stream health during testing. YouTube transcodes incoming live video into formats for viewers on different devices and networks.
Test before making the broadcast public
Run a complete end-to-end test, preferably unlisted if that suits your channel setup. Check these items before relying on a continuous broadcast:
- The intended files play in the right order and return from the final item to the first.
- Audio is audible and consistent, and there are no unwanted silences or playback failures between files.
- YouTube receives the expected picture and sound and reports acceptable stream health.
- OBS is not accumulating dropped frames under sustained load.
- After a brief network interruption, OBS’s configured automatic reconnect behaves as expected. OBS documents automatic reconnect as a configurable feature; it does not remove the need to monitor the computer, network, and platform connection.
Plan for interruptions and replay archives
A loop only repeats media; it does not keep a computer awake, restore a failed network, or ensure YouTube accepts a broadcast indefinitely. Keep the host powered and awake, protect the network connection as practical, and decide how you will notice and recover from a stopped stream.

Do not rely on a single continuous 24-hour YouTube broadcast for a complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; it recommends keeping a local recording as backup. If a replay matters, consider shorter scheduled broadcasts or a local archive, and verify disk capacity and the restart procedure before depending on either. Ending and restarting broadcasts affects continuity for viewers. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Clear rights for devotional recordings and visuals
A bhajan’s devotional subject or traditional lyrics do not automatically give you permission to stream a particular recording, arrangement, performance, or video. YouTube’s livestream terms require the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights.

YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party matches, which can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. Even if you have a license, the stream may still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Prefer original, commissioned, or explicitly licensed recordings and visuals, and keep documentation of your permissions. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
