It depends on where the repeat happens. If only you see one video repeating while watching a YouTube playlist, check the player’s repeat setting. If the live audience sees the same prerecorded file again and again, check the playlist or playout sequence feeding your encoder or hosted streaming service. Those are separate systems: YouTube’s player controls affect your viewing, not the channel’s outgoing live feed.

First, identify what is repeating

  • Only your own playback repeats: You are watching a YouTube playlist, and its player may be set to repeat one video.
  • The live audience sees the file repeat: The repeated video is likely in the source sequence being sent to YouTube by an encoder or hosted playout service. Check that upstream source.

Ask a viewer to confirm what they see, or inspect the live output yourself. A repeat in your local player does not prove the outgoing broadcast is repeating, and a repeat in the broadcast is not fixed by changing your YouTube player controls.

If only your YouTube player repeats one video

YouTube supports both repeating a whole playlist and repeating one video within it. On a computer, expand the playlist beside the video and click the Loop control. YouTube says the playlist will repeat continuously; toggling the control again changes it to repeat one video within the playlist. Control labels and locations may differ on mobile devices or other interfaces. See YouTube’s playlist-loop instructions.

If the live broadcast repeats the same file

A scheduled YouTube live event receives its content through a live-stream feed, commonly sent by an encoder. YouTube’s event and stream setup are distinct from a viewer’s playlist playback controls. Start with the system that supplies the feed, not the playlist toggle in the YouTube player. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the live workflow.

Check the source playlist and sequence

  1. Open the encoder or hosted playout service that is sending the event.
  2. Confirm that every intended file is included in the playlist or scheduled sequence.
  3. Check the order. Look for a playlist containing the same file more than once, an unintended repeat-current-item option, or a schedule that points repeatedly to the same item.
  4. Save any correction and verify the live preview or output. Confirm that it advances to the next intended file.

The exact controls depend on the encoder or hosted service. YouTube’s documentation describes sending a feed through an encoder; it does not define a universal playlist repair setting for third-party playout tools.

If a hosted service schedules the playlist

Check the playlist and schedule inside the service you actually use. Hosted playout services can have their own playlist controls; for example, Restream documents creating a video playlist and scheduling it to go live. That example does not mean your stream uses Restream or that the service is necessarily the cause.

Why a scheduled event can use the wrong content

YouTube separates the scheduled broadcast from the feed that delivers its media. The Live Streaming API describes reusable liveStream resources for delivery settings and liveBroadcast resources for scheduled events. Reusing stream settings does not make the media source a YouTube viewer playlist; the content sequence still comes from the feed you send. Read the YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.

Retest the layer you changed

  • If personal playback was the only problem: Check the player again and confirm it advances through the playlist as expected.
  • If viewers saw the repeated file: Check the live preview or output after correcting the encoder or hosted-service sequence.

The exact cause cannot be identified without details such as your playback device, encoder or hosting service, source playlist, and what appeared in the live output.
