To enable YouTube live streaming on a new channel, verify the channel by phone in YouTube Studio, then confirm that it has no live-streaming restrictions from the past 90 days. You must be at least 16 to start a live stream. The 50-subscriber threshold and possible wait of up to 24 hours apply to the YouTube mobile app, not necessarily to webcam, encoder, or console streaming.
Enable live streaming on your channel
- Open the channel’s feature settings. On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio, select Settings, then Channel, then Features.
- Verify your phone number. Under Features that require phone verification, select Verify phone number and follow the prompts. YouTube says phone verification unlocks live streaming.
- Check eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. The person starting the stream must be at least 16.
- Choose a streaming method. YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as ways to stream. The general eligibility guidance does not establish a universal 24-hour wait for all methods.
For a Brand Account, an owner or manager can verify a phone number. For a channel that is not a Brand Account, only the owner can do so. If you cannot complete verification, check that you are signed in with an account that has the required role.
Check the extra requirements for mobile streaming
The mobile app has additional conditions. You need at least 50 subscribers, a verified channel, live streaming enabled, and no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. YouTube says your first mobile live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available after you enable the feature.
If your channel has fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the number of viewers on mobile live streams and set archived streams to private by default. Reaching 1,000 subscribers does not necessarily remove the limitation immediately; YouTube says it may take several weeks.

Pick the method that fits your setup
| Method | What to know |
|---|---|
| Mobile | Requires at least 50 subscribers, verification, enabled live streaming, and no live restriction in the prior 90 days. The first mobile stream may take up to 24 hours to start. Below 1,000 subscribers, viewer limits and private-by-default archives may apply. |
| Webcam | YouTube lists webcam streaming as a computer-based option. The general eligibility requirements still apply; the mobile subscriber threshold is not stated as a general requirement for this method. |
| Encoder | YouTube lists encoder streaming as an option. The cited eligibility guidance does not specify a particular encoder, hardware, or software requirement. |
| Console | YouTube lists console streaming as an option. The cited eligibility guidance does not provide further method-specific setup details. |
You do not need to buy a phone, webcam, console, or encoder just to enable the feature. Equipment depends on which streaming method you choose.
If live streaming is still unavailable
- Phone verification is missing: Return to YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Features and complete verification. Confirm you are the owner, or a Brand Account owner or manager, as appropriate.
- Your channel has a recent restriction: Check whether YouTube has applied a live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days; verification alone does not override one.
- You are trying to stream from the mobile app with fewer than 50 subscribers: The mobile method’s stated threshold is at least 50 subscribers. Consider a listed alternative such as webcam, encoder, or console streaming, subject to general eligibility.
- You enabled mobile streaming recently: Allow up to 24 hours for the first mobile stream to become available. This possible delay is specified for mobile, not as a universal wait for every method.
- You have fewer than 1,000 subscribers: Mobile viewer limits or private-by-default archives may be expected. YouTube says removal after reaching 1,000 can take several weeks.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock using uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud option rather than a way to stream from a live camera. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
