You can run a Marathi devotional livestream from a cloud server in two ways: install an encoder such as OBS Studio on a cloud virtual machine (VM) and send its output to YouTube, or send a compatible source feed to a managed cloud livestream service. For a temple event with singers and cameras on site, a venue-side encoder may be simpler; a cloud server is more useful for remotely managed graphics, scheduled prerecorded material, or centralized production.
Choose the right cloud setup
A cloud server does not automatically make a livestream easier. First decide where the video and audio originate, who will operate the production, and whether you need to create scenes or simply relay a feed.

Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documents RTMP_PUSH and SRT_PUSH inputs, which must be paired with a compatible encoder or transcoder. OBS on a VM instead acts as the encoder itself. [Google Cloud Live Stream API best practices]
Prepare the YouTube channel and event
- Check eligibility. YouTube’s current start guide says the channel must be verified, must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. - Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule the event. Set the title, audience, visibility, and thumbnail. Scheduling provides a watch page you can share in advance. [YouTube: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder]
- Copy the stream settings. In Live Control Room, retrieve the stream URL and key for the event. You will enter them in the encoder. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Restrict access to the VM and its configuration, avoid putting the key in logs or screenshots, and replace it if it is disclosed.
Set up an encoder on a cloud VM
Install and validate OBS
OBS can run on Linux, but a VM needs suitable display and graphics support. OBS lists OpenGL 3.3-compatible graphics and X or Wayland for Linux and Unix. Its Linux installation guide provides Ubuntu 18.04-or-newer instructions and recommends Flathub for non-Ubuntu distributions; consult the live documentation for current steps before installing. There is no universal minimum VM size for this setup. OBS says CPU demand varies with the chosen encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity, and meeting its basic requirements does not guarantee adequate streaming performance. Select the VM after choosing the intended output and scene, then test that exact configuration during rehearsal. A VM without suitable graphics or display support may need a different encoder setup or a different architecture.
Build the devotional scene
- Add the video and audio sources your event needs. For live vocals or spoken audio, route an appropriate microphone or other audio input to the encoder.
- Keep event details and Marathi text legible on a phone screen. Check that the cloud operating system has the fonts you intend to use and rehearse Devanagari rendering; missing fonts can produce boxes or substituted characters.
- Use restrained overlays and verify that titles do not cover the singer, speaker, or important visual details.

Connect OBS to YouTube
- In OBS, open Settings and then Stream.
- Select YouTube if the service is available in the encoder’s service list. Otherwise choose the option to enter a server URL and key manually.
- Paste the stream URL from Live Control Room into the server field and the event’s stream key into the key field. Use the values for the intended event, and keep the key out of public notes, screenshots, and logs.
- Save the settings. Do not start the public event until your rehearsal confirms that the correct scene, audio, and stream are being sent.
YouTube supports encrypted RTMPS ingest. RTMPS is RTMP over TLS/SSL; when your encoder supports it, use the RTMPS URL shown in Live Control Room rather than assuming the ordinary RTMP URL is encrypted. [YouTube: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS]
Use a managed cloud ingest service instead
With a managed service such as Google Cloud Live Stream API, the service receives a source feed and processes it; it is not the same as installing OBS on a VM and building scenes there. The documented input protocols include RTMP_PUSH and SRT_PUSH. You still need a compatible encoder or transcoder to send the selected input format. [Google Cloud Live Stream API best practices]

Before choosing this route, confirm how your source will reach the service, who will configure and operate the encoder or transcoder, how graphics and scenes will be produced, what monitoring and recovery options are available, and the total cost for the event duration. Available guidance establishes protocol options and compatibility considerations, but not a complete current price or reliability comparison for these architectures.
Rehearse, start, and end the broadcast
- Run a private or unlisted rehearsal. Test the complete scene and audio path on the intended VM or managed service, then check the stream on a separate viewer device.
- Start the encoder. Send the stream to YouTube and wait for its preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check that the audio is present and in sync, Marathi text renders correctly, and the picture is stable.

- Test recovery before event day. In rehearsal, verify what happens after a disconnect or process restart. A general-purpose VM does not have a documented, guaranteed restart or failover behavior in the cited guidance; plan an operator response rather than assuming the stream will resume by itself.
- End the event deliberately. End the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop sending encoder content. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Protect music and recordings
Religious or devotional content is not automatically exempt from copyright enforcement. Before broadcasting, confirm that you own or have permission to use both the specific composition and the particular recording or performance. The rights status of any individual bhajan, chant, or recording depends on that material and its permissions; do not assume that a traditional song or a live performance is cleared for every use.

Plan the cloud cost and workload
Cloud VM sizing and cost depend on the output resolution and frame rate, encoder, scene, source count, and whether you need an interactive desktop or can use a headless setup. The documentation cited here does not establish a current instance price, a YouTube bitrate preset, or an officially recommended VM size for this Marathi devotional workflow. Estimate the event duration and test resource use during rehearsal before committing to an instance. For a managed service, compare its event-duration cost and operating requirements against the VM approach rather than assuming one is cheaper.
