To configure an SRT output in AWS Elemental Live, open the event’s Output Groups > Reliable TS, add an output, set Delivery Protocol to SRT, and match SRT Connection Mode to the downstream endpoint’s role. Before configuring it, coordinate the receiver’s address, port, latency, encryption settings, and network access with its administrator.
Gather the receiver and network settings
Get the following details from the downstream system administrator before editing the event. These settings depend on your deployment; AWS does not prescribe a universal destination address, port, latency, interface, or passphrase.
- Endpoint role: Is the receiver configured as an SRT caller or listener?
- Destination: What IP address and port should receive the stream?
- Latency: What value should Elemental Live use? Agree on a value with the receiver so the two ends are configured closely.
- Encryption: Will the connection use no encryption or AES encryption? If AES is enabled, agree on the key length and passphrase.
- Network access: Confirm that traffic can reach the destination. Depending on the network, this can require opening ports at the destination or allowing traffic from Elemental Live’s public IP address.
- Interface: Determine whether a particular interface is required in your installation. Use the field’s product UI tooltip rather than guessing an interface value.
- Redundancy: If you want a secondary destination, confirm that the receiver can accept two streams and switch to the alternate, and that the content provider can supply two completely identical source copies. If either condition is unmet, configure one destination instead.
AWS states that Elemental Live does not use an SRT stream ID when delivering output. Do not add a stream ID requirement to the output setup. See Amazon Web Services, Getting ready – AWS Elemental Live.
Create the SRT output
- Open the event in AWS Elemental Live and go to Output Groups.
- Choose Reliable TS, then select Add Output.
- Set Delivery Protocol to SRT.
- Set SRT Connection Mode to match the downstream endpoint. The pairing is detailed below.
- For the primary destination, enter the receiver’s IP address and port. AWS shows
srt://192.168.1.2:5000as an example format; it is illustrative, not a recommended address or port for your installation. - Select an interface only if your deployment requires one, using the UI tooltip to understand the field.
- Enter the latency value agreed with the receiver.
- Choose None or the agreed AES encryption level. If encryption is enabled, enter the passphrase agreed with the downstream administrator.
- Add a secondary destination only if you confirmed that both systems support redundant delivery as described above.
These are the output fields and workflow in AWS’s Creating the output – AWS Elemental Live guide.

Match SRT caller and listener roles
Elemental Live’s connection mode must complement the downstream endpoint’s mode. The caller initiates the SRT handshake; the listener accepts or rejects it. This affects who starts the connection, not who sends the program: Elemental Live remains the sender in either arrangement.
| Downstream endpoint role | Elemental Live SRT mode | Handshake initiator |
|---|---|---|
| Listener | Caller | Elemental Live |
| Caller | Listener | Downstream endpoint |
Use the endpoint role supplied by its administrator; do not select a mode based only on which device is sending the video. AWS explains the roles in Delivering TS using the SRT protocol – AWS Elemental Live.

This setup allows SDI video signals to be transmitted via a LAN. Note: The SDI signal of ZowieBox (hardware before 10.1.13) is not compatible with ATOMAS SHOGUN INFERNO, SHOGUN ULTRA, Blackmagic Decklink Quad 2
- Standalone Live Streaming: Just plug and play, ZowieBox can stream videos PC-free, not affecting your computer performance at all. Support SRT caller/RTMP(S)/RTSP streaming protocol
Choose generic SRT or the MediaConnect option
For a destination other than AWS Elemental MediaConnect, use the generic SRT delivery protocol described above. If the destination is an SRT flow on MediaConnect, AWS recommends a different path: use the Reliable TS output group and select the AWS Elemental MediaConnect option rather than generic SRT. See AWS’s output types for delivery to non-AWS destinations documentation.
Check software compatibility
AWS’s output-type table lists SRT under Reliable TS for live transport stream output and identifies Elemental Live 2.22.2 as the version in which the option was introduced. This is a historical introduction point, not confirmation that the option is enabled on a particular appliance. Check the software version installed on your system and verify the available output types in its interface.

Validate the configuration and troubleshoot
After configuring the output, confirm the receiver can accept the selected role, destination, latency, encryption, and any secondary stream. If the output does not connect or behave as expected, use these checks to narrow down the cause:
- No connection or handshake: Confirm caller/listener pairing first. A caller initiates the handshake; a listener waits for it. Then verify the destination IP and port and check that the network and receiver firewall permit the connection.
- Receiver is unreachable: Ask the network administrator to confirm routing and port access, including whether the destination must allow traffic from Elemental Live’s public IP address.
- Encrypted connection fails: Compare the encryption selection, AES key length, and passphrase at both ends. Encryption settings must match.
- Unstable recovery behavior: Compare the latency configured at Elemental Live with the receiver’s setting and agree on a close value. AWS’s setup instructions do not prescribe one universal latency.
- Secondary stream cannot be used: Confirm the receiver supports two streams and failover, and that the provider is supplying identical copies. Remove the secondary destination if those prerequisites are not met.
- SRT option is missing: Check the installed Elemental Live version and available output types. AWS lists 2.22.2 as the version that introduced the option, but the installed system’s interface is the practical check.
