Add the clock and ticker as an OBS Browser Source: load a local HTML overlay or a hosted overlay URL, set the source dimensions for your layout, and position it in the scene. Then verify the clock’s time zone and test the broadcast before relying on it during a 24/7 stream.
Choose a local or hosted overlay
OBS Browser Source is a browser page inside your scene. OBS documents that it can load either a local file or a web URL, making it suitable for custom clock-and-ticker pages as well as provider-hosted overlays. It is available through official OBS packages for Windows, macOS, and Linux. See the OBS Browser Source guide.

Add the overlay in OBS
For a local HTML page
- Open the scene that will carry the overlay. In the Sources panel, select + and choose Browser. Create a new source and give it a recognizable name, such as “Clock and ticker.”
- In the Browser Source properties, enable Local file and select the HTML page. OBS documents local-file and URL modes in the same source.
- Set the source’s Width and Height to suit the overlay layout and stream canvas. The documented defaults are 800 × 600, which may not fit the intended design.
- Select OK, then position the source in the preview. Drag it into place; use the transform controls or resize handles to fit the clock and ticker without cutting off text.
For a hosted overlay URL
- Add a Browser source to the scene and create or select the source.
- Leave Local file off, then enter the overlay URL in the URL field.
- Set the source width and height to match the overlay design and canvas, select OK, and position it in the preview.
- Use the provider’s controls, if offered, to set the clock format, ticker text, crawl speed, typography, colors, and other layout choices.
OBS removes page margins, hides overflow scrollbars, and uses a transparent background by default for Browser Source. The source properties also provide custom CSS and controls for frame rate and page refresh behavior. For a clock or crawl that appears uneven, check the overlay’s own animation and refresh behavior as well as the Browser Source settings.
Keep the clock and ticker visible during a continuous stream
Leave the Browser Source in the scene that is actually on air. If the stream switches scenes, include the source in each relevant scene or use a scene arrangement that keeps it visible; otherwise, the overlay will disappear when OBS changes to a scene without it.

The Shutdown source when not visible option unloads the page when the source is hidden or is not in the active scene. Decide whether that behavior suits your scene switching: an overlay that should remain ready across scene changes may need the source kept visible or the setting adjusted. Check the source again after any scene or refresh changes.
OBS renders the page; it does not validate that the page’s clock shows the right local time. Confirm the overlay’s time-zone behavior with its provider or HTML implementation, inspect the time in the OBS preview, and compare it with the intended time zone before going live.
Test the YouTube stream before running it 24/7
YouTube Help advises, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Test with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, and monitor stream health. A static overlay test in the OBS preview alone does not confirm how the encoded stream looks to viewers. YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate recommendations vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec.

These are YouTube Help’s H.264 encoder recommendations on the page accessed in 2026, not special settings required by a clock or ticker. Other codecs have different values, and these figures do not establish a single best bitrate for every stream. Choose settings for your output resolution, frame rate, and codec, then check the live stream’s health in YouTube Studio.

YouTube says first-time live streaming activation may take up to 24 hours. Its encoder workflow uses a YouTube Live server URL and stream key. Treat the key as a credential: enter it only in the intended encoder workflow and never expose it in a public screen capture. See YouTube’s live streaming setup guidance.
A camera-specific ticker option
CamStreamer’s Infoticker guide describes a clock beside a banner, with 12-hour or 24-hour clock formats, configurable text and background colors, one or two lines, a switching interval, and a crawl effect on supported camera processors. Text can be entered directly or supplied from a remotely hosted TXT file; the guide says the widget can display continually when no schedule is filled in. This is not a general OBS plugin: the stated prerequisites are an AXIS camera, CamStreamer App, and CamOverlay App. See the CamStreamer Infoticker setup guide.
