Usually, a pending YouTube channel-name change is not itself listed as a live-streaming eligibility barrier. YouTube’s general rules require a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16. YouTube does not expressly say whether a pending rename affects access on an individual channel, so check the channel’s feature status in YouTube Studio before you go live.
Does a pending name change stop YouTube live streaming?
YouTube’s published live-streaming requirements do not list a pending channel-name change as a reason a channel cannot stream. The rules instead focus on channel verification and whether the channel has had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says a streamer must be at least 16. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance does not guarantee that every channel with a pending rename retains access, however; the channel’s own status in Studio is the practical check.
A name change may take a few days to appear across YouTube. That display delay is not the same as a stated suspension of live streaming: YouTube’s profile instructions do not say that a pending change turns off streaming. A channel name can be changed twice within a 14-day period. YouTube’s profile guidance also says changing the name removes a verification badge.
Feature verification is different from the public verification badge
For live-stream access, “verified” refers to completing channel verification to unlock features, typically through phone verification. It does not mean displaying the public verification badge next to the channel name. YouTube says verified channels do not receive extra features, and a renamed channel that had a badge must reapply for it. Badge removal alone is not identified as a reason to disable live streaming. YouTube’s verification-badge guidance covers the badge, not a guarantee of streaming eligibility.

Phone verification unlocks live streaming as a channel feature, but YouTube notes that restrictions tied to Community Guidelines or copyright strikes can affect available features. Check the channel’s current access rather than inferring it from the badge or the name-change status. YouTube’s feature-access instructions explain where to check.
Check your channel’s live-stream status in Studio
- Choose the right channel. Sign in to the Google account that owns the channel, then confirm the intended channel is selected.
- Open the feature status. In YouTube Studio, go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility (sometimes described as the Features page). Check whether live streaming is available or needs to be enabled.
- Review restrictions and strikes. If live streaming is unavailable, read any notice in Studio and check for applicable Community Guidelines or copyright restrictions. Follow the instructions in the notice, including its appeal process where offered.
- Check the method-specific requirements. If you are streaming from a phone, confirm the subscriber minimum and activation status separately. Desktop webcam, encoder, and console methods follow the general eligibility rule; changing production method is not a workaround for a restriction.
Public help pages cannot show the live status of a particular channel. Studio and any channel-specific restriction notice are the actionable sources for that account.

Mobile streams have additional requirements
YouTube’s mobile live-streaming rules add requirements beyond the general rules for webcam, encoder, and console streaming:
- At least 50 subscribers.
- A verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- Live streaming enabled for the channel.
- Up to 24 hours for the first mobile live stream to become available after activation.
For channels with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the mobile audience size and make the stream archive private by default. YouTube says it can take several weeks after reaching 1,000 subscribers for that limitation to be removed. These are mobile-specific limits, not stated general requirements for desktop webcam or encoder streams. See YouTube’s mobile live-streaming guidance.

What to do if live streaming is restricted
YouTube says Community Guidelines and copyright actions can lead to live-streaming functionality being turned off temporarily or permanently. It also identifies restrictions associated with certain age and content circumstances. If a restriction is active, do not try to evade it by streaming from another channel: YouTube prohibits using another channel during the restriction period and may treat it as circumvention. Check the official notice and use its appeal instructions if applicable. YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions guidance explains the restriction policy.
