To save an Indian GST invoice webpage as a PDF with PDFShift, send its URL as the source in a POST request to https://api.pdfshift.io/v3/convert/pdf, authenticate with your API key in the X-API-Key header, then write the returned PDF bytes to a file. This captures the page as rendered; PDFShift does not verify the invoice or determine whether it meets GST requirements.
Convert an invoice URL to a PDF with Node.js
PDFShift’s documented Node.js workflow returns the PDF as binary data. The example below saves that response directly to invoice.pdf. Replace the URL and API key with values for a page you are authorized to access.

Write the response bytes to a local PDF file and open it to check that the invoice content rendered as expected.

Choose a response format for your workflow
Use the direct binary response when your code can save or pass along file bytes immediately. If a later automation step needs a URL to download, PDFShift’s Make guide describes including a filename to receive JSON with a temporary PDF URL, then using an HTTP download step to fetch it.

Convert a private invoice page
A URL that works in your own browser may not be accessible to a conversion request. If the invoice is behind a login, PDFShift’s Make guide lists authentication, cookies, and custom HTTP headers as options for private pages. Provide only the session or authentication details needed to access your own invoice, and keep secrets out of source code and logs.

These options do not guarantee that every portal’s login flow will work. A portal may rely on interactive steps or session behavior that the conversion request cannot reproduce. After conversion, inspect the PDF for missing invoice details rather than assuming that a successful response means the page was fully accessible.
Check authentication and the resulting PDF
PDFShift’s Help Center says API-key authentication moved to the X-API-Key header on 2025-05-06. It also notes that a missing key can leave a request unauthenticated and result in a watermark. Use the header shown above and consult PDFShift’s API-key authentication notice if your request behaves differently.

Troubleshoot common problems

The request returns an authentication error or a watermarked result: Confirm the API key is present and sent as
X-API-Key, not in an outdated authentication format. Make sure the process can read the environment variable. -
The PDF is missing invoice content: Check whether the URL is publicly reachable by the conversion service. For a private page, use the authentication, cookies, or custom headers supported by the documented workflow, then verify the rendered result.

The request fails before a file is saved: Check the HTTP status and response text before treating the response as PDF data. A failed request should be handled as an error, not written with a
