First check whether the black interval also appears in OBS’s preview. If it does, troubleshoot the media source, playback settings, or scene visibility. If the preview stays correct but YouTube Live goes black, investigate OBS’s output path separately. For one file, use an OBS Media Source with Loop enabled; for multiple files, use a VLC Video source with a playlist. Neither setting guarantees gapless transitions between separate files.
Find out where the black screen starts
Watch OBS’s preview through the moment one file ends and the next begins. Note whether the screen goes black in the preview, only in the delivered YouTube stream, or after the entire playlist finishes. Also note whether audio continues. This comparison helps narrow down the fault, but it does not identify every possible cause.
- Preview goes black at a file boundary: Check the source type, playback settings, source visibility, and scene layering.
- Preview is correct, but YouTube is black: Check OBS’s stream output and logs rather than changing media-source settings at random.
- Black screen appears after the final playlist item: Check whether the playlist is set to repeat.
Fix a single file that goes black
For one local video, OBS documents using a Media Source. Its Loop property repeats the file after playback completes.
- In OBS, select the scene containing the video.
- In Sources, select the Media Source and open its properties. If you have not added one, use + and choose Media Source.
- Confirm that the source points to the intended file and enable Loop.
- Check Show nothing when playback ends. OBS documents that this option hides the source when the file completes, so it may explain a black screen after playback ends.
- Check Close file when inactive if the problem occurs when the source is hidden or inactive; consider whether that behavior matches your intended setup.
- Test the playback and the transition in OBS before returning to the live stream.
Fix a playlist of separate files
For multiple local files, OBS documents the VLC Video source type. VLC must be installed, and OBS says a 64-bit OBS installation requires 64-bit VLC.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. Match its architecture to OBS: use 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
- In OBS, select the scene and add a source with + > VLC Video.
- Open the source properties and add the intended video files to its playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the list should start over after the final item.
- Check Shuffle Playlist if files play in an unexpected order.
- Inspect the source’s Visibility Behaviour. OBS provides this setting to control whether VLC playback continues, pauses, or stops while the source is not visible.
- Test every file boundary in the preview. OBS documents playlist restart behavior, but does not promise that transitions between different files will be gapless.
Check source visibility and scene layering
A source can be playing but hidden. In the OBS Sources list, confirm the video source’s visibility is enabled and check whether another source above it covers the video. For VLC Video, review Visibility Behaviour to see what happens to playback when the source becomes hidden. For Media Source, review its end-of-playback options if the blackout follows completion of a file.
Test a remaining gap between files
If the preview goes black only at the handoff between separate playlist items, test a single continuous file made from the clips instead of separate playlist entries. This avoids separate playlist item boundaries in principle, but it is a workaround to test, not a documented or guaranteed fix.

- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
- Prepare a continuous file containing the clips in the intended order.
- Load it as a Media Source and enable Loop if it should repeat.
- Watch the relevant boundary in the OBS preview, then make a test recording or use a private stream before relying on it for a public broadcast.
If the combined file still goes black, the issue may not be the playlist handoff; return to the preview-versus-delivered-stream check and inspect the source and output paths separately.
If OBS preview is fine but YouTube Live is black
When the local preview stays correct, changing the playlist or media source may not address the problem. Check OBS’s output settings and logs to investigate the stream-output path. YouTube’s documented HLS setup requirements apply to HLS ingestion; they do not establish a fix for black intervals between local OBS playlist files.
