New subscriptions and subscription renewals have been disabled since September 21, 2026. If you are already selling, use the remaining time to review sales and plan a transition. If you are considering a new launch, weigh the setup effort against that short runway.
Know what buyers can still get—and for how long
Vimeo On Demand supports a single film or video and a series. Sellers can set rental and purchase prices; series can also be offered as subscriptions. Renters stream for the selected term, from one day to one year, and cannot download the title.

A purchase is not permanent streaming access. Vimeo says On Demand will fully shut down on November 20, 2026, and streaming access to purchased titles lasts only until then. If you enabled downloads, buyers may keep an eligible downloaded copy. Be explicit about this limitation anywhere you describe a title as available to buy.
Because new subscriptions and renewals have been disabled since September 21, 2026, a subscription is not a viable offer for a new customer now. Vimeo recommends Vimeo OTT for creators just starting to sell video, but moving is a separate business decision—not a guarantee of higher earnings.

Calculate what a sale may actually earn
Do not estimate take-home revenue by multiplying your listed price by 90%. Vimeo says sellers keep 90% of gross revenue after transaction costs are deducted; transaction costs range from 4% to 17%, depending on the work’s price, the purchaser’s payment method, and the currency. After transaction costs and applicable taxes are deducted, Vimeo takes 10% of the remaining amount. VAT, GST, and sales taxes can also affect proceeds; in VAT/GST regions, the displayed buyer price may include tax.
Vimeo’s setup guidance illustrates the calculation with a $10 purchase by a New York buyer: about $7.80 remains after a stated $0.48 transaction fee, $0.85 applicable tax, and $0.87 revenue share. This is an example, not a promised payout or a general estimate for other prices, buyers, or currencies.

Payments are described as monthly through PayPal, approximately 30 days after the end of the sales month. Sellers need a verified PayPal account. For your actual earnings, use your Vimeo statement or sale-level CSV rather than estimating from the list price.
Choose an offer that fits the work and the remaining runway
For a standalone film or video
Vimeo documents rent and buy pricing. Rental access is time-limited, while purchase streaming ends when On Demand shuts down. If downloads are enabled, an eligible downloaded copy may remain available to the buyer, so check the download setting and explain the distinction accurately on your page.

For a series
Vimeo documents episode-level and whole-series rental or purchase choices, as well as subscription pricing. Subscriptions are affected by the September 21, 2026 cutoff and November 20 shutdown. Vimeo’s documentation does not establish that one format earns more for a particular audience.
Changing a title from rent/buy to subscription, or the reverse, requires creating a new On Demand page and deleting the old one. Before taking on that work so close to the shutdown, consider whether the setup effort is worthwhile and how you will move the audience and catalog elsewhere.

Make the title page explain the value clearly
Vimeo’s setup options include a title, description, release year, genre, tags, rating, language, distribution regions, selected currencies, pricing, a trailer, poster, page thumbnail, video or episodes, and bonus content. You can also use promotional codes and VIP access. Availability of the documented setup feature is tied to eligible Vimeo plans: Standard, Advanced, Pro, Business, Premium, or Enterprise. Check your account’s plan and current interface before relying on a particular control.
- Describe the work and the buyer’s offer plainly: what is included, whether the price covers an episode or full series, and how long rental access lasts.
- Use the trailer, poster, and page thumbnail to identify the title and set expectations. Vimeo provides these as configurable assets; its documentation does not establish that they increase conversion.
- If you offer bonus content or a promotional code, state what it applies to and any relevant limits. These are available configuration options, not proven sales-growth tactics.
- Review distribution regions, selected currencies, and pricing together so that the offer is appropriate for the markets where you intend to sell.
Promote the page, then use analytics as signals
You can share an On Demand page link through social media or email, and embed the page on another site. On Demand analytics include sales, gross revenue, trailer plays and likes, comments, contacts, referrers, and geographic views. Use these figures to see where interest and sales appear to be coming from and to decide what to investigate next. They do not, by themselves, prove that a particular post, referral source, or region caused a sale.

Vimeo does not give sellers the names or contact details of all buyers. You can export email addresses for people who opted in to seller updates; do not treat that opt-in list as a complete customer list, and follow Vimeo’s email policy.
Compare Vimeo OTT before choosing a migration path
Vimeo identifies OTT as its suggested option for creators just starting to sell video. OTT documents free and ad-based content, pay-per-view, transactional purchases and rentals, and subscriptions. The ad-supported option has specific requirements: AVOD requires Enterprise and Google Ad Manager; post-roll or mid-roll advertising is described as requiring Google Ad Manager 360.
Vimeo lists OTT subscription fees at $1 per subscriber per month plus merchant charges of 2.5% plus 30¢. For transactional purchases or rentals, it lists 10% plus 50¢ per transaction. Vimeo notes that enterprise contracts can vary, exceptions may apply, currency can affect charges, and separate video upload-hour charges may apply in some circumstances. Confirm the terms relevant to your account and region before comparing proceeds.
Evaluate the destination on more than its headline fee. Compare the revenue model, payment charges and taxes, download and streaming access, supported countries, audience-contact tools, analytics, catalog migration work, setup costs, and the time required to establish the new destination. The documented fee structures alone do not show that OTT will make a given creator more money.
Keep a YouTube live channel separate from Vimeo sales
