For one video, use OBS’s Media Source and enable Loop. For a playlist of local videos, use OBS’s VLC Video source, add the files, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC Video is an OBS source that relies on VLC Media Player; it is not a separate OBS plugin you need to find for basic playlist looping. If you want your YouTube stream to continue without leaving a computer running at home, see the cloud option below.
Which OBS option should you use?

OBS’s documentation describes VLC Video as supporting a playlist, “similar to an Image Slideshow.” The basic playlist feature is part of this OBS source, although the source depends on VLC being installed. OBS Project: Media Sources
Set up a looping video or playlist in OBS
Loop one video with Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene where the video should appear.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add Media Source.
- Choose a name for the source, then select the local video file in its properties.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the properties. Check that the video appears and plays in the intended scene.
Loop multiple videos with VLC Video
- Install VLC Media Player if it is not already installed.
- In OBS, select the scene, then select + in Sources and add VLC Video.
- In the source properties, add the local video files to the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist to repeat the full set. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want playback order randomized.
- Choose how the source should behave when its scene is hidden: stop and restart, pause and resume, or keep playing. Match this to your scene setup; a hidden source set to stop will not continue playing in the background.
- Confirm the properties and check the order, audio, and hidden-scene behavior in your own OBS setup before going live.
If VLC Video does not appear, install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS. OBS states that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS Project: Media Sources
Settings and details that can affect playback
- Visibility behavior: The VLC Video source offers stop/restart, pause/resume, and always-play behavior when the source is hidden. This matters when a scene change hides the video source.
- Shuffle: Use Shuffle Playlist when you do not want files to play in their listed order. Leave it off for a fixed sequence.
- Audio and subtitles: VLC Video exposes audio-track and subtitle controls in its properties. Verify the selected tracks with your media files.
- Network caching: OBS lists a 400 ms default for network caching. That setting is not a guaranteed fix for every playback problem, and the workflow here is for local files.

OBS source looping is not YouTube’s viewer loop
When you loop a source in OBS, you control what OBS plays into your live broadcast. YouTube’s viewer-side loop control applies to watching a YouTube video or playlist; it does not configure a local OBS source for a live stream. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube
Common problems and what to check
VLC Video is missing from the source menu
Install VLC Media Player, then confirm that its architecture matches OBS. For 64-bit OBS, OBS specifies 64-bit VLC.

The playlist ends instead of starting over
Open the VLC Video source properties and check that Loop Playlist is enabled. The separate Loop control for a single file belongs to Media Source.
The video stops when you switch scenes
Check the VLC Video source’s behavior while hidden. Choose always play if it must continue while its scene is not visible; choose pause/resume or stop/restart if that better fits the broadcast.

Files play in an unexpected order
Review the playlist order and whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled. Shuffle randomizes playback rather than preserving the listed sequence.
There is no sound or the wrong subtitle appears
Inspect the audio-track and subtitle controls in the VLC Video properties and verify the result with the specific files you plan to broadcast.
