Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo stop a YouTube 24/7 stream while protecting its recording, plan to end the broadcast before it reaches 12 hours, make sure a separate local recording is running, and follow the end controls shown in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Neither result is guaranteed, so verify both copies after the event.
Why a single 24/7 stream is risky to archive
YouTube’s current archive guidance says a stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is a caveat, not a promise that every shorter broadcast will be saved or that every longer one will be lost. A single uninterrupted 24/7 event therefore should not be treated as a reliably archivable recording.
If keeping the YouTube archive matters, schedule a controlled stop before the 12-hour boundary and start a new event if you need to continue broadcasting. Keep a separate local recording as a second preservation layer. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
Before stopping: protect the local copy
- Confirm local recording is enabled and active. The YouTube archive and a local recording are separate copies. One does not prove the other exists.
- Check that the local file is intact and growing. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend checking local archive file integrity and ensuring the file size is increasing. Do this before relying on the recording as your backup. YouTube Help: Live streaming tips
- Allow for storage and file handling. Make sure the recording destination has room for the remaining event and that you can access the finished file. A portable external SSD or hard drive can provide local storage, but a drive alone does not configure recording or guarantee that YouTube captures an archive.
Stop the encoder stream in the right order
- Open the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Use the controls displayed for that event; the available controls can depend on how the stream was created.
- For a scheduled encoder stream, select “End Stream” where shown. YouTube’s encoder instructions also say to stop sending content from the encoder. Follow the Live Control Room flow for the stream, then stop the encoder’s output.
- Confirm the event has stopped on YouTube before stopping encoder output. YouTube’s streaming tips advise stopping the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube. This avoids treating a local encoder shutdown as confirmation that the platform-side event ended.
- Keep the local recording until it has finished writing. Check the saved file after recording stops rather than assuming that a still-open or recently closed recording is complete.
YouTube’s instruction for ending an encoder stream is: “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” Its scheduled-stream instructions also include the “End Stream” control. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder

Find and verify the YouTube archive
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live tab to find previous, current, and upcoming streams.
- Locate the event you just ended and check that the expected archive is present. Do not assume it was captured just because the live event ended normally.
- Check the archive’s visibility setting and change it if needed. Verify the setting before sharing the link.
- Keep the local backup until you have checked that the YouTube archive is playable and that the local file is usable. Avoid deleting either copy until you know which one you need to retain.
YouTube documents managing archive visibility and deleting an archive in Studio. Visibility settings govern who can access a captured archive; they do not establish that the recording was successfully captured. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
DVR is not the same as an archive
DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume while a broadcast is live. YouTube notes that DVR may be limited or unavailable for very long streams. Disabling DVR affects viewers’ ability to seek back during the live broadcast; it is not an archive-preservation setting. YouTube says viewers can still see a recording of the entire stream once it is available. YouTube Help: Use DVR on live streams

Common shutdown problems and fixes
- No archive appears in Studio: Check the Live tab again and allow time for processing. If the event exceeded 12 hours, YouTube says it may not be captured at all; use the local recording if it is intact.
- The local recording is missing or incomplete: Check that local recording was active and that the saved file exists and opens. YouTube recommends verifying file integrity and growth while recording; a YouTube archive is not a substitute for checking the local copy.
- The event still appears live after the encoder was stopped: Return to Live Control Room and confirm the platform-side event status. Stopping encoder output alone is not confirmation that YouTube has ended the event.
- The archive exists but the wrong people can view it: Adjust its visibility in YouTube Studio, then confirm the setting. Do not confuse a privacy change with proof of capture.
- Viewers could not rewind during the broadcast: That concerns DVR behavior, not whether a post-stream archive was created. Check the archive separately.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded video running as a YouTube live stream without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay on at home, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- Every slot streams the uploaded quality, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding.
- The first day is free with no card required, one free day per account.
- Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
For a 24/7 stream that you plan to archive, the YouTube 12-hour archive caveat still matters: plan separate events and preserve a local copy if you need one. Start your free StreamNeo day.
