If your YouTube Live encoder keeps disconnecting on Airtel broadband, first establish whether the encoder lost its connection to YouTube or a viewer is having playback trouble. Then test over Ethernet, check sustained upload capacity against your encoder bitrate, and change settings one at a time. A disconnect points to a problem somewhere between your computer and YouTube’s ingest server; it does not, by itself, prove Airtel is blocking the stream.
First, identify what is disconnecting
Look at the encoder’s connection status and dropped-frame counter, then check stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room. If the encoder reports a lost connection or rising dropped frames, troubleshoot the outbound stream. If the encoder remains connected but someone watching sees buffering or an error such as “Connection to server lost,” the problem may be on that viewer’s playback path instead. YouTube’s playback troubleshooting and video-error guidance address viewer-side problems, not a direct repair for an encoder disconnect.
OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide, dated 2024-09-30, says: “If you experience dropped frames or intermittent disconnections while streaming, there is a network issue between your computer and the remote stream ingest server.” That path includes more than your broadband provider: the computer, local network, router or ONT, provider route, and YouTube’s ingest endpoint can all be involved. OBS also says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames”; this is a reason to investigate the connection and bitrate path, not proof that the ISP is at fault.
Fixes to try, in diagnostic order
1. Run a controlled test over Ethernet
If you are streaming over Wi-Fi, connect the streaming computer directly to the Airtel ONT/router with an RJ45 Ethernet cable and repeat a representative test. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. Airtel’s fiber guide identifies a Cat5/Cat6 cable for connecting a computer to the ONT/router. This is a useful, reversible way to test whether Wi-Fi is contributing; it cannot fix a fiber-line fault, provider routing issue, outage, or YouTube ingest problem.

- Check that your computer has an Ethernet port. If not, confirm that a compatible adapter is available before buying a cable.
- Choose a cable long enough to connect directly without stretching or creating a trip hazard.
- Do not buy a new router or mesh system just because a stream drops. First establish whether the issue is Wi-Fi coverage or another part of the route.
2. Check the Airtel equipment and physical connections
Confirm that the ONT/router has power and that its cables are seated. Observe the service indicators while the connection is working and, if possible, during a drop. Airtel cautions that lights and labels vary by model, so do not treat one color or blinking pattern as a universal diagnosis; consult the equipment documentation or Airtel support.
Airtel’s Xstream Fiber troubleshooting guide notes that the fiber patch cord is delicate. Make sure it is properly inserted and is not sharply bent. Avoid repeatedly wiggling or bending a live fiber patch cord. If all devices lose service at the same time, note that alongside the equipment indicators for your provider.

3. Measure upload capacity and leave bitrate headroom
Run an upload-speed test, ideally at times when drops usually occur. A short test is only a snapshot: it does not prove that upload capacity remains stable throughout a long stream, and other household traffic can use capacity at the same time. Compare the result with your encoder’s video bitrate and leave headroom instead of setting bitrate equal to the test’s maximum. A plan’s advertised speed or a download-speed result does not establish sustained live-stream upload performance.

| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that your Airtel connection will sustain the upload continuously. Select a quality your connection can support, test before going live, and monitor YouTube’s stream health. YouTube’s bitrate table varies by codec and output mode, so check its guide before applying figures to other resolutions or codecs.
4. Lower bitrate or test another ingest server
Change one encoder setting at a time so you can tell whether it helped. First try a lower video bitrate and repeat a test long enough to be meaningful. If your encoder offers an alternative ingest server for YouTube, test it as a separate change. Keep OBS’s “Bind to IP” setting at Default unless you have a specific reason to change it.

- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
OBS lists IPv4-only as a diagnostic test. If you try it and see no improvement, return the setting to IPv4/IPv6 default. Dynamic bitrate can reduce frame loss by lowering quality when the network cannot keep up, but it does not repair the underlying connection problem. Expect reduced video quality while it adjusts.
5. Reduce competing traffic and check local software
Temporarily pause large downloads, cloud backups or sync, other streams, and software updates on the network. Airtel’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance also discusses range and network load, which may matter if the computer is using Wi-Fi.

For OBS, its troubleshooting guide identifies VPNs, security software, network-optimization utilities, and outdated network drivers as possible contributors. Test cautiously: if you briefly isolate a VPN or security tool to diagnose a problem, restore your normal security protections after the test. Do not disable protection permanently to keep a stream running.
6. Restart only when it is useful
A controlled restart of the ONT/router can help distinguish a transient equipment issue, but it interrupts all services using that connection. If you try one, record whether it changes the symptom and when the drop returns. Repeated restarts without recording results do not identify an intermittent line or routing fault.

If the stream still drops over Ethernet at a bitrate below the upload capacity you can sustain, gather details before contacting support. Ofcom’s broadband and Wi-Fi guidance recommends checking the issue and keeping track of drops when seeking help from a provider.
- Write down each drop’s date, time, and duration.
- Record whether OBS lost its connection, showed dropped frames, or remained connected while viewers reported buffering.
- Note whether other devices lost internet access at the same time.
- Include whether the test used Ethernet or Wi-Fi, your encoder bitrate, and the upload-test result and time.
- Record relevant ONT/router indicators, but identify the device model rather than assuming a light means the same thing on every unit.
- List the changes you tested and whether each changed the result.
Check Airtel’s service-status or support channel and ask it to inspect the subscriber line or a local fault if the evidence points beyond Wi-Fi or encoder settings. The official YouTube and Airtel material cited here does not establish an Airtel-wide YouTube Live block or a current local outage, so do not infer either from a disconnect alone.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube loop rather than diagnosing a live encoder on your Airtel connection, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos looping to YouTube, not a camera feed, and it does not diagnose or repair an Airtel connection. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
