Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To make OBS retry a YouTube stream after a connection interruption, open Settings → Advanced, enable Automatic Reconnect, and set Retry Delay and Maximum Retries. Retry Delay is the initial wait, not a fixed interval: OBS doubles the wait on each retry. For a scheduled YouTube broadcast, also check its Auto-stop setting, because that can affect whether OBS can reconnect to the same broadcast.
Set automatic reconnect in OBS
- In OBS, open Settings → Advanced.
- Find Automatic Reconnect and turn it on. OBS identifies this as an Advanced setting; its exact placement can vary by version or output mode.
- Set Retry Delay to the initial wait before OBS makes a retry. OBS doubles the retry wait on each attempt, so a delay of D seconds produces waits of D, 2D, 4D, and so on—not the same gap every time.
- Set Maximum Retries to the number of attempts you want OBS to make. OBS documents this as a retry limit but does not prescribe a universally suitable delay or attempt count.
Choose these settings based on how long you are willing to let OBS attempt recovery. A larger retry limit allows more attempts, but it does not make an unstable connection reliable or guarantee that the YouTube broadcast remains available.
Check YouTube’s broadcast behavior
OBS’s YouTube integration guidance says that disabling Auto-stop on a scheduled stream can allow OBS to reconnect to that broadcast after an interruption. Auto-stop can prevent a later reconnection to the same broadcast. However, YouTube may eventually end a broadcast if it receives no stream data for multiple hours, so disabling Auto-stop is not an unlimited hold-open guarantee.
Use the Auto-stop setting that matches your planned recovery workflow, and verify the broadcast is still available in YouTube if OBS cannot reconnect. OBS’s guidance does not establish a single Auto-stop configuration for every YouTube workflow.

Choose retry settings without assuming a universal best value
There is no one OBS-published Retry Delay or Maximum Retries value that suits every long-running stream. Retry Delay controls the initial wait, while Maximum Retries sets how many attempts OBS makes. Since the wait doubles after each attempt, longer sequences can stretch across a substantial interruption. Set the attempt limit according to how long you want OBS to keep trying before you intervene.
For example, if your chosen initial delay is D, subsequent waits are 2D and 4D. This illustrates the schedule; it is not a recommended value or a promise about total recovery time. OBS documentation does not specify a universally correct setting.

Troubleshoot repeated reconnects and dropped frames
Automatic reconnect handles attempts to resume; it does not correct the cause of the interruption. OBS identifies unstable connectivity, bitrate that exceeds what the connection can sustain, software interference, and faulty network hardware as possible contributors.
Reduce bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for bitrate troubleshooting. Treat this as general OBS guidance, not as a YouTube-specific official bitrate specification or a guarantee. A connection may fluctuate, so sustainable upload capacity matters more than a brief peak result. If dropped frames continue, lower the video bitrate and see whether the connection becomes stable.

Prefer a wired connection when Wi-Fi is unstable
OBS warns that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming and recommends a wired connection. Check the network path, including the cable and other hardware, if interruptions persist. Replacing a faulty cable may address a hardware fault; it will not change OBS’s retry timing.
Use dynamic bitrate only as a fallback
OBS’s dynamic bitrate option can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up, which may help reduce dropped frames. It can also reduce video quality, and OBS says it does not fix the underlying network problem. Treat it as a fallback when the connection issue cannot be resolved rather than a substitute for stable connectivity.

Check network settings cautiously
OBS’s guide says some users report benefit from Windows-only network optimization and TCP pacing settings, but these are not universal fixes. Keep Bind to IP at Default. If testing IPv4-only makes no difference, OBS advises returning IP Family to IPv4 and IPv6. Change one setting at a time so you can identify whether it affects the problem.
When OBS reconnect does not restore the stream
- OBS keeps retrying: Check whether the network is stable and the bitrate is sustainable, then verify the scheduled YouTube broadcast has not ended.
- Dropped frames return after reconnect: Lower bitrate, use Ethernet if Wi-Fi is unstable, and check for software interference or faulty network hardware.
- The broadcast will not accept a later reconnection: Review Auto-stop for the scheduled broadcast. A broadcast may also end after multiple hours without incoming stream data.
- The retry interval seems to grow: That is expected: Retry Delay is the starting wait and OBS doubles the wait on each retry.
