Switching live-streaming providers is usually a new account and encoder setup—not a transfer of your channel. Set up the destination, preserve the content you can, update your stream URL and key, tell viewers where to find you, and test before the first public broadcast. Followers, subscriptions, channel history, and monetization should not be assumed to move with you.
What changes when you switch providers?
Your new service has its own account, audience tools, content archive, policies, and monetization rules. The official materials for YouTube, Kick, and Twitch describe service-specific features, not a general channel-migration process. Plan as though you are starting a separate channel and rebuilding the pieces you control.
- Audience: Do not count on followers, subscribers, or notifications transferring or redirecting automatically.
- Content: VODs and clips may be downloadable or exportable, but availability and metadata preservation vary by service.
- Production: Your encoder needs the destination provider’s stream URL and stream key.
- Operations: Recreate or verify overlays, alerts, moderation access, chat rules, profile information, integrations, and scheduled events.
- Income and agreements: Check eligibility, payout conditions, partner terms, sponsorships, and exclusivity obligations before choosing a date.
Compare destination services against your own needs: audience discovery and notifications, archive portability, moderation, encoder support, quality and latency options, accessibility, content rules, and monetization. The available official guidance establishes some platform-specific differences, but it does not support a universal ranking of providers.
Before you announce the move
Confirm that the destination is ready for you
Create or sign in to the destination account and check its current live-streaming eligibility requirements. For YouTube, the Help Center says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days; it also lists a minimum age of 16. Requirements can change, so check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance before scheduling.

Check both providers’ rules and your agreements
Read the current terms for both services, plus any partner, sponsorship, or exclusivity agreement that applies to your account. Do not assume simulcasting or directing viewers to another platform is allowed in your specific situation. Kick’s partner multistream guidance, for example, applies to Kick Partner Program streamers and has specific settings and payout terms; it is not a general rule for every creator or service.
Inventory what you need to rebuild
Make a list of VODs, clips, profile text, panels, emotes, overlays, alerts, chat rules, moderator contacts, links, scheduled events, and third-party integrations. This is a planning list, not a promise that these assets can be transferred. Keep copies of source files and configuration details where practical, but never include a stream key in a shared document or public post.

Preserve VODs and other content
- Identify the content you need. Prioritize broadcasts, clips, descriptions, and other material that would be difficult to recreate.
- Use the original provider’s current export or download tools. Save local recordings when available and permitted. If exporting a large archive, check a sample file before relying on the whole process.
- Check rights and destination rules before reposting. Having a downloaded file does not by itself establish that you have permission to republish every part of it on a different service.
- Keep files and metadata organized. Store titles, dates, descriptions, and other useful details separately if the export does not preserve them.
Kick says a stream VOD is saved to the channel page after the broadcast ends. Twitch’s official help search excerpt describes past broadcasts and an Export option for sending videos to YouTube when accounts are linked; verify the current workflow in your Twitch account before relying on it. Neither service-specific feature means every archive, chat, comment, timestamp, or item of metadata will transfer.
Set up the destination and encoder
Get the destination credentials
Create a stream in the destination dashboard and copy its stream URL and stream key. Treat the key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. YouTube calls its stream key the encoder’s “password and address.” An owner or manager can reset a YouTube key in Live Control Room; after a reset, replace the key in your encoder. If a key is exposed, reset it promptly and update the encoder.

Enter the new URL and key in your encoder
The exact menus depend on the service and encoder. Kick’s instructions for OBS specify OBS > Settings > Stream > Service: Custom…, then entering the server URL and stream key from the Kick creator dashboard. Other providers or encoders may use different labels; use the destination service’s current instructions rather than reusing the old provider’s credentials.
Kick lists OBS, XSplit, Streamlabs Desktop, and MELD among supported applications. Its guide also advises keeping the bitrate within your maximum upload speed. Check the destination service’s current quality and bitrate guidance and leave room for upload-speed variation; a bitrate that exceeds the connection’s available upload capacity can cause instability.

Recreate the broadcast details
Set the title, category, privacy, schedule, and latency in the destination dashboard. Confirm that the encoder is sending the intended audio and video sources, and reconnect chat, alerts, overlays, and moderation tools as needed. YouTube’s “Reuse settings” option copies metadata, settings, and a stream key from a previous YouTube stream; it is a convenience within YouTube, not a cross-provider migration feature.
Test before going public
If the destination supports a private, unlisted, or otherwise low-risk test, use it to check picture, sound, chat, alerts, overlays, moderator access, and VOD creation. Verify any horizontal or vertical output you plan to use. Keep a fallback way to contact viewers, a secure copy of your encoder configuration, and a short message explaining where you will resume if setup fails. These checks are a plan for your test; they are not a claim that a test has been performed.

Move viewers without relying on automatic redirects
- Pick a date and time. Include the timezone in every announcement.
- Announce the destination clearly. Share the exact channel name and link on the old channel and on communication channels you control independently of it.
- Repeat the notice near your final broadcast. Update profile panels, social profiles, community servers, overlays, and scheduled-event descriptions where you can.
- Set up discovery on the new service. Publish a schedule or upcoming event if available. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers can choose “Notify me”; those notifications are specific to YouTube.
- Leave a notice on the old profile if permitted. A “where to find me now” link can help, but do not expect the former provider to transfer followers or notify them about your new channel.
Can you stream to both platforms during the transition?
Possibly, but first check the terms that apply to both accounts and any partner or sponsorship agreement. Kick’s May 22, 2026 guide says multistreaming is limited to Kick Partner Program streamers. For long-form destinations such as Twitch or YouTube, the creator must enable the Multistreaming toggle; Kick says payout is reduced by 50% for the duration of the multistream session. This is a Kick-specific condition, not an industry-wide rule. Confirm your account status and current terms before using it.
Troubleshooting a provider switch
- The destination does not receive video: Check that the encoder uses the new provider’s server URL and key, not the old service’s values. Confirm the stream is started in the encoder and that the destination dashboard is set up to receive it.
- The stream key no longer works: It may have been reset or copied incorrectly. Generate or copy the current key from the destination dashboard, update the encoder, and keep the replacement private.
- The stream is unstable: Check the encoder’s bitrate against the connection’s available upload speed and the destination’s current recommendations. Reduce the bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it.
- Viewers cannot find the new channel: Recheck the exact destination link and channel name in announcements, profiles, and scheduled events. Do not assume old followers received an automatic redirect.
- An archive is missing: Check the original provider’s archive and export settings, then verify whether the content was saved or exported successfully. A VOD feature on one platform does not guarantee archive portability.
- Simulcasting affects partner income or eligibility: Stop and check the current partner rules and agreements for each service before continuing. Do not apply one platform’s policy to another.
